PoE2 poll&post: Rares and Splinters
Added 2025-01-05 04:02:43 +0000 UTCI've made very good progress on the base style+strictness gradient of the filter. What gave me most troubles today?
Rares and Splinters
Rares presented a logic problem.
Splinters a stylistic one.
Rares
Handling rares is tricky. Why is it so hard? Well:
Rare scale with arealevel.
That means you want to see lower rares on lower maps.
But rare items also gain a lot of power with levels. A level 82 rare is pretty rare and is quite powerful.
There's currently 5 tiers of endgame rares.
This whole thing needs to scale with strictness
...and ideally look good and not too messy
The solution that worked was first analyze the rare tier VS itemlevel combos.
Here's the table I came up with:

Each rare has an 'optimal level'. in areas of level 65-70, the T4 basetypes are usually the best you can use. As the arealevel changes the relative value decreases, because a new base is introduced.
This was then fairly easy to implement as a set of ~15 rules and turn the tiering table and a strictness gradient.
The result are 15 rules. Their content can be edited through one view on filterblade and it's easy for me to maintain.
I know this post is a bit cryptic, but the result is:
One lower strictness you'll see all somewhat useful rares
On medium strictness you'll see the best rares available on your level + top itemlevel rares of somewhat decent level
On high strictness you'll only see the best itemlevel 82 rares
On the highest strictness you won't see rares at all.
Splinters
These are just hard to get right.
They're cheap, but essential. You want to see them well, but you don't want them to be the most dominant color on screen.
I tried a lot of variations and here are 3 screenshots.
Keep in mind, everything you see is lowest strictness+work in progress
Tell me which one you like the most!

I like the use of a different color for splinters. Contrast is good.
