Igarra vs Ezreal vs Max (spoiler)

The truth is the power difference between Max and Ezreal at the start is obvious. I wont give specifics as I have a spreadsheet that tracks everything but Ezreals power lies in a few different areas (specificially his domain area and certain skills.
For those not wanting that spoler, look away.
Compared to Igarra - Ezreal is weaker stat wise, but very troublesome with his travel abilities. He can cause a lot of problems which requires her to leave the town and yet, a simple Waypoint travel takes him out of her range.
Can she kill him? She believes so but the problem with fighting someone who has also conquered the tower is one never knows how strong they really are. Even as you continue to grow in power, you never know what they are doing or how they are growing.
Igarra - obviously she is a powerhouse, far stronger than she had been a long time ago, having milked the position of power she has held for some time.
Stat wise - she trumps Max.
Skill wise - Igarra wins
How she lost - revealed some in book 7. Remember it was a battle of attrition with a guy who seemingly didnt have the problem of regeneration / not dying.
Bob’s ability to reset skills, trading stored power for that feature is their ace.
Also their ability for both of them to act independently of each other is one of the reasons for how they were able to overcome such difficult odds. Having two minds who can work in tandem as well as independently allows for offensive/offensive, offensive/defensive, and defensive/defensive.
Skills - this part will be a common theme to come. You saw some of this early on in the tower where Max acquired skills he shouldnt have.
Bob has been able to override some of the system trying to stop Max from getting skills, but cannot always do that. That is why we see some get through and not others. In the end, things again change as Max progresses.
Finally - world protectors & those who have defeated the tower are going to be exponentially stronger than what many will expect. That strength isnt always in sheer stat capabilities but also sometimes a skill.
With book 7 done (and uploaded - wohoo) a few more small details will come about what lies beyond the tower. Know that each world’s tower is different and yet the similar. Defeating it isn’t easy and Max didn’t defeat the one on Igarra’s world.

It said it could share stats with another person if they combined necklaces but in the beginning of the book it says it’s only 50 stat point increase (which is was prior to bonding). Was that a typo or did it mean something else when it said “share stats”?

I think it’ll be an interesting dynamic to see how they handle it. Skill shards and stat gems may be one way to help, assuming they could obtain a lot of them Hell, he’s immune to damage for epic and below and that’s before he evolves again Dexic is a consideration too, now, and how she may or may not fit in

2024-12-24 01:59:40 +0000 UTCI really hope that our other dwarves and elves don't fall too far behind Max. This power jump in this book is extreme. Even the few levels in the tower through the party don't help much. Not to mention potential opponents in the home world, who somehow make sense politically (Elven dad or characters like the Queens can't actually reach World Champion level without it becoming a bit of a reversal for me in retrospect) But the skill shards and Max's possible world-hopping might be able to cushion the blow. Otherwise, I wouldn't know how to do it with current information. Sure, legendary equipment... but that can't do everything and also has its limits. IF the skill shards play a role, I wonder if the gods will approve. Because the “humanoid” world of Max actually has other limits/rules, which would already rewrite Max in a certain way.

2024-12-24 01:37:09 +0000 UTCSometimes I look too much at figures like that. The chapter format means there's always time to look. Perhaps I would address the cap or (Cap limit reached - Consume not possible, power stored) or something similar. If it's addressed later, it's all good for me as a reader. At the moment, I would just ask myself this question. In this case, it would really only be to explain the whole 100 numbers, which otherwise seem a bit too smooth for me as a reader in the short term. But I think you have a pretty good overview of your own rules of worlds, system and co. and will manage to pick up on such things in retrospect without leaving any question marks at the end. In the end, there's always a difference between show and tell. Too much explanation in the wrong place can also be a hindrance, but knowing all the rules is also satisfying... oh well.

(why only 89 points... is that cap for dragon?). Talked with a few beta readers about stuff like this. Finally just went the 'cap' round numbers :)

2024-12-23 21:55:29 +0000 UTCI've been wondering for a bit now, does the adventurer's guild ever become relevant again? The entire driving force behind the plot in the first book, maybe the first 2, is that the guild is after his head, but it's been a massive plot hole for a wh8le now. The woman that knocked him out, as well as her boss, haven't even been mentioned for several books now. At one point, she sent a group of adventurers after him, all rank B if I recall correctly, and then they were never mentioned again. And yes, the queens had tasked Ezreal with killing him, which he has utterly failed to do, but after they hired him, all mention of their attempts has vanished. Did the god that wanted him dead tell them to give up? Because last it was addressed, his very existence had them fearing what would happen to them, and it was not implied that they recognized who he may be in the arena encounters on his homeworld. It feels like a lot of the initial driving factors for the existence of this series have just been completely swept away for some time now, and I'm wondering you ever plan on circling back around to tie up those loose ends.

2024-12-23 17:36:51 +0000 UTCOK, so you mentioned a domain for Ezrael in another comment. In book 5 during a dungeon break, max is solo in an undead dungeon. He kills a vampire rabbit “boss” and a lich “boss” before chasing a smoky bean around the dungeon and managing to chop off his arm thanks to a combination of frost, nova and his halberd right as the thing tries to teleport. Bob mentions that Max was able to do what he did because the game was weaker on their world, but in his domain they wouldn’t have stood a chance. Is Ezrael that being that Max managed to cut his arm off?

2024-12-23 17:14:51 +0000 UTCyeah its there, just a little more subtle as Bob and Max talk some about their relationship. 100 is the current 'cap' max stats that Consume can take and that requires a 'large' gap in Max's current stats compared to what he defeats. The biggest thing we often forget is Max has his BASE stats and then his Equipment stats. Something like a dragon doesn't get those. They simply have massive stats as a base.

It's a secret perk I've done since I rolled it out. Anyone who has signed up for a year membership gets access to my beta folder / beta discord. They get to read as i write (like its been 4-5 days since I've written something new as I went through and edited all of book 7 after writing it last week. So there are 20-30 people here with access through book 7. As I start book 8 and drop those chapters in that folder, they get to read it as well. Also when I do other stories, I drop that inside there. It's not something I promote as I don't want to seem like 'oh pay me for XX' and its simply something I just do as a 'thanks' if that makes sense.

I know you always tend to go for nice round numbers... but the starting values are/should have been different and it would be rather odd if he then gets the same input everywhere without a limit. And yes, I think it's important to explain the victory a little more. You could tell that Max wouldn't have stood a chance without Bob. But I think the importance and renewed focus on it would be good for all readers. So, if that happens in book 7, I'd be happy. It's dangerous to explain every power gap with just Bob to let Max win. That can't always work. Even if negate death or similar skill resets seem pretty strong. I look forward to a more detailed explanation :)

Deyfic? Max has eclipsed the woman who initially punched him on his skill day. Bit now he has topped a more powerful world's leader board. So won't that make him world class on his home world?
