Life update

Hey everyone.

Its been a crazy bit of time and I always try to keep everyone updated and abreast of anything that impacts my writing.

2022 my dad passed and I moved my mom closer to me. She has been doing progressively worse on her own even with me visiting, driving, taking to appt and more as she is by herself in an apartment place.

So we made the decision to move her in with us. Doctor even says she needs the help and so I’m in the weeds of getting a lot of stuff in place and dealt with.

Convinced her finally its better this way but means a shakeup in my house. Moving to a different room for wife and I. Have to get all that done. Then putting her in our master bedroom/bath as she needs room and a place for her.

I have about 2 large rooms and a small storage closet of stuff to go through with her to decide what to bring and leave.

All that on top of my kids which means Im not near my usual pace.

So in November I’ll indefinite pause on writing Viking book 3. I do want to get back to it and it is doing well, but right now I need to scale back a bit.

Whatever i write between now and then I’ll have and give but I have to keep UL1 at the front since it pays for all this. I’m not one to give up but right now I’m spending 3-4 days at the football field for my kids games and then swim on top of my full time job.

I just wanted to share where I am at and the struggle I’ve been feeling. Versus keeping it quiet a lnd potentially burning out completly, I spoke with my publisher and they agree this is the best path until I can get back to my normal pace.

As always I’m more grateful than words can express for your support but also understand if you need to drop it for a bit. Hopefully I’ll be back up to normal in January .

Thanks

Shawn

My wife (a psychiatrist) commented to me the other day that it was hard sometimes to watch people “peopling.” The struggles we go through, the juggling priorities, the trying to navigate tension without all our old injuries making them worse, the competing demands on our time and energy…I guess you might call that “Lifing” in a similar vein. So good luck with lifing; it’s tough sometimes. But you got this, and I’ll wait in the wings till you have the space and energy to pick up another ball and work it back into your rotation.

It is a lot and totally worth it. We moved my Mom in with us for the last 6 years of her life. It is hard and there are good days and bad. But all of my kids got to know her and have great memories as a result. The writing will get there, we still have to live life. I love you stories and can wait.

Sounds like a lot to manage! Wishing you the best! Love all of the stories! You make the writing seem effortless. Thanks for the update!

First off: Family and health come first always. Totally understand Second: thank you so so much for keeping us up to date. It is important for a creator to have a good dialogue with their supporters and I really think you have that. Take as much time as you need. I for one am happy to support just for UL1, it’s what I joined up for originally :) All the best. Hope your Mum settles into your place quick and easily.

Totally understandable, family first. Better that you scale back than burn out. 🫡

No worries, do what you need to do.

You do what you gotta do man. Come back to it when you can, but I am glad to know you’re going to continue with UL1. Itz one of the things I look forward to reading (and I still am buying the books themselves because I love it that much). Best wishes that the transition for your family is smooth. We’re on the fence right now with my dad and his health and what would be best moving forward so I know it’s a tough position taking on the responsibilities
