I'm considering modifying the story (been writing some on it these past few days). I think that instead of having his skill decrease with each death, I might hold off and it stays the same.
In your opinion - do you feel that having the number not decrease would change the 'urgency' of how many deaths he gets? While we could 'assume' there is no limit to them, (I won't reveal that now), I want to make sure the path I'm going down is done and someone had spent a good 20 mins or more asking if it would be better to not have that happen.
So in your opinion - Should the MC 'technically' only be allowed 99 deaths or should he have unlimited (don't worry either way I have a lot of other 'stuff' that happens as story progresses. )
Just wanted to get some feedback as I write some chapters today and keep going on that same direction - not needing to change later (just makes it easier to make sure I don't miss something)
Thanks!

Maybe unlimited to start so we can go through the figuring things out stage and then bring in the count?

Think it gives you unlimited paths for the story to take - 40 years after last dying he has a family and weather, and is suddenly hit by a bus... Back to square one, and he has to remember all the steps he took to get his family back...

So if he can beat this event he could unlock more sage skills. Maybe undying blood could be 101 - Beyond. After completing this check point. Because edge of tomorrow and the manga original, was stuck on one loop. You would have to plan for the next checkpoints of the loop.

2024-09-14 14:26:59 +0000 UTCGood story, worth the effort to get it right, option as mentioned above reduce count but he figures out or plot armor to get it to not reduce through some additional stroke of luck during the acquisition of it - to create a new take on the genre….its really how you want to write it though…to keep it the same you can’t have him just throwing his lives away like your first draft, as an example which changes the fundamental approach. If unlimited lives, it gives you authority to allow the character to be less intelligent about his decisions - either way will work but changes how you must write the character. I believe a more thoughtful character in all his decisions makes for more interesting reading

2024-09-14 14:08:55 +0000 UTCYes remove the count. It adds a limitation on the story that in the beginning is not the best. Once readers have been drawn in, it could be something that appears after a certain event, and he then has an arc to overcome said issue. That way it’s part of the storyline but not part of the fundamental foundation. Just my thoughts!

2024-09-14 13:47:08 +0000 UTCI think either can work fine, I just prefer the tension of the count reducing, but that tension can be filled any way you like really, so I don't know that it is essential, just a nice to have in my opinion
