Why I’m transitioning into comics

It occurred to me that I may have left out a few thoughts on this issue before, so I’m here to offer a little more insight on why this is such an important transition for me. “Blah blah blah, stop talking and just get to work!” I can hear a few of you saying, and I know… I talk a lot. You guys are under no obligation to read this one as I’m just airing out my grievances and indulging in some personal revelations, but who better to share this with than the ones most invested in my work? Maybe some of you find this kind of thing interesting to read, who knows.

So why the hell am I transitioning into comics?

A lot has changed for me since I made the first chapter of Hot Shit High. I’ve spent a lot of time writing and exploring ideas… living with characters and dreaming of possibilities. And what I’ve realized is that I have stories to tell. Goofy, silly, sexy, maybe even semi-serious ones – the ideas are never ending. I can see the comics I could potentially make in the future and I’m filled with optimism about them. I’m filled with energy and motivation to bring these stories to life. It’s a feeling I just don’t have with illustration or any other work, and it’s one that I can’t ignore. I have always valued my ability to entertain more than anything else, and with comics I feel that I am operating at full capacity to do just that. Simply put, if I don’t take this chance I know that I will regret it immensely.

I have heard from a few of you that you prefer my illustrative work to my comic work and I understand you completely. I like them too, but they don’t mean much to me anymore. My hope is that those of you who feel this way will stick around and give me a chance to prove myself. If my instincts are right, the comics I have planned for the future should provide more entertainment and more lasting value than any of my pictures could. Color illustrations and fan art will continue to be made of course, but on my own schedule and most likely whenever I feel the need for a break from the workload that comics require.

Which leads me to this point. Creating comics is A LOT of work… but it’s going to force me to work harder and develop new skills. They are going to force me to learn how to become a faster and more efficient artist. I’ve been feeling like I need a good kick in the ass for a while now, and comics feel like the exact kind of push I need. I’m proud of the care I take when I create something new but I also want to be less fearful of mistakes, less cautious, and more free. So that’s why I’m making this transition... to express myself more fully and to seek new artistic growth. The comic work I created in the past felt non-commital to me. I picked it up and put it down when it was convenient. But this is different. This is a commitment to a new direction for me. I’m kinda scared to jump in like this but I’ve learned to swim before and I’ll learn again.

We’re getting closer now... and I’ll be back again soon with more information.

I'm excited to see how it turns out! Your style carries a lot of energy into the art, and I feel that that translates well into comics (as evidenced by HSH)

Thanks! Glad to hear it :)

Erotibot

Your work is stunning. Seriously stoked for you to move on to the comics.

Zabuzaxsta

Read Hot Shit High. It's like a sequence of his normal images but with a fun plot connecting them. They're still going to be erotic.

Zabuzaxsta

Comics? Eh? I guess I am out. Bye and good luck

Derp

Really appreciate your comment and for giving me some thoughts. Ideally I'd like my pages to come out more regularly and frequently than they have in the past - though this might correlate with some goals so I can recoup finances. There will also be plenty of updates and works in progress for every page. I'll be dropping some more information soon on the upcoming changes. Thanks for supporting the type of art you care about!

Erotibot

I totally agree. Everything is heightened by context because that's how we experience situations in life. Thanks for the comment!

Erotibot

Comics are great to get into making. You can end up with characters who aren't just pretty faces and genitals but developed and progressed people. It makes adult material more interesting, as a character's background and development can instantly give an image some context. I think your comic pages already look very well done!

Hello. I would to comment here, I am currently not a patron but I do follow you and your works, so if you start producing more comics I will consider becoming a patro. I am on a fixed income so I have to budget my discretionary spending I like to support as many artists as I can I just can't support them all at the same time. So that being said I look forward to seeing what new works you have in your creative mind. Also how much content or pages you can create in a month will of course depend on the medium you use, the quality of the work being presented and the amount of story you are telling. Some of the artist I support use pencil and/or ink in black and white medium and turn out a page a week and hire out the coloring to someone else, Joe Mangini or Ynot65 come to mind as colorists. Some artists that do their own coloring can crank out a colored comic page ever 2 weeks depending on if they use paper and scanners and hand draw and color it or if they digital media software, such as Manga Studio. And I have one artist who is spot on wickedly erotic with his Kim Possible stories and artwork, but he has disabilities and a really slow computer and software so he is lucky to turn out a page a month. But his work, like said is so spot on and erotic, for those of us that love KP artwork, that his work is well worth the wait. So that being said, also. I think you decision to do comics is a big and bold daring decision since some artists rely on Patreon for income. Said artist with disabilities is one who does. I don't know your situation but I'm sure it was part of the decision making process, so i look forward to it. Just a word of encouragement though, I for one don't follow it because I prefer the finished product, but if you post your Works In Progress folks will usually stay interested in what your doing and keep coming back to check on your work. So GOOD LUCK with your new direction and I'll be keeping an eye out for the finished product, be it a chapter or a page. Thank you for listening. And Thank you for the art.

Let's talk about this for just a second if you don't mind. NTR is a tricky subject because there are many people who are sensitive to this issue and I can understand why. I've never actually been interested in NTR myself, as it neither excites me nor does it illicit any negative emotions in me... however... *HOWEVER* I used a lite form of NTR in the first chapter of HSH. Not as a way to fetishize suffering or make readers upset, but as a way to generate conflict and as a conduit for emotional turning points. Chapter 2 will be in line tonally with Chapter 1, so if it didn't bother you there it shouldn't bother you in the next part, but that's about as much as I can say right now. Chapter 2 will have emotional ups and downs, but it's going to be a fun ride.

Erotibot

Ooooh, that's a good question but really hard for me to answer right now. The truth is I don't know yet. I've never been the quickest artist but I'm hoping momentum and steady focus on comic work will yield better output. I'm still placing priority on high quality work first and foremost, so I don't think I'd be able to bang out a chapter in a month doing everything myself. That said, I do intend to keep busy and to post more often than I am now.

Erotibot

I 100% agree with you and that's why I'm changing this page to a single monthly charge and restructuring the reward tiers in August. I regret the way the sketch raffle tier was set up and I'm planning on offering something better next time around. Thank you for giving me some feedback, and I really appreciate your support!

Erotibot

Just no NTR, dear god lol. Otherwise im happy to keep supporting. Those are seperate statements, just in case thats not clear

This is honestly really cool to hear! I joined your patreon because of the comics you've done so far, and its cool to see how you've gotten a real calling for it. Wish you the best of luck! Quick question though: just out of curiosity, how long roughly would it take for you to finish a chapter drawing a comic? I know you said before it was non-committal, but if you went hard at it, how long would it take you? 2 weeks? A month?

John

the biggest issue i think is you need to fix your per update to a per month basis then, because i had to stop doing the 10 donation because i wasn't getting the value i was expecting out of it, if you diod commission i would hire you in a heartbeat, but spending $40 a month or so to MAYBE get a "free" piece of art wasn't worth it, but i love your comics and i fully support this transition

You know, I would love to see more comics made by you. I love reading comics! And reading this post, I'm so interested to read more comics from you!

Brother Tico

Thank-you thank you. Always enjoy seeing your pictures in my feed!

Erotibot

I'm so excited to see what you do! Comics are such a blast to do and yours are so fantastic! So fun and silly 💖

Caffeccino

Hell yeah, dude! Go for it! I'm rooting for you. ^_^b

Darc

what do you mean?

Erotibot

Hmmm this is something I not entirely sure about yet. I think I'd be down for the occasional poll, but if I'm being completely honest with you polls are my least favorite thing to do. We'll see what the future holds.

Erotibot

though curious when fanart/illustrations happens in between comics would it be poll based like before or a character that's the eye at the moment?

A-T

Will you go back to those ideas when the time comes for you to do so? Meaning what if someone asks you to do so.

ihereou

You've definitely proved to me already with your previous comics works so I'm looking forward to it.

A-T

Thank-you!

Erotibot

Thanks for the encouragement. You are a wonderful patron.

Erotibot

Visual novels are super cool, but I don't think they are the right medium for what I have in mind. I think the stories that I want to tell can only be told in comic format.

Erotibot

Yes! I haven't gone into the new Patreon stuff yet, but one of the rewards will involve storyboards and steps along with brief write-ups on the process. It'll be handled differently than how I handle them now though. Much easier and less waiting.

Erotibot

I've looked into it before. They don't allow explicit NSFW comics like the kinds I make. There will be a website set up for the comic with a comment feature though. That will have to do for now.

Erotibot

Best of lucks! Maybe in a near future you might get some of your works published and even printed! (Hello Fakku) Just a simple question: Will you share with us the storyboards/steps? I have learned a lot from your tutorials and it would be amazing to know the comic creation process too.

Monosex

Do you have a Webtoon?

Rodger L.

I look forward to the next Hot Shit High and your other comic works.

ArdenW

Have you thought about doing like, a Visual Novel?

Koomsy

You got good drive! Most people would be happy with the state you're in now but you push further. People who are passionate and have the drive to do something with it eventually make the best stuff and I'm always willing to support that.

TakuAmazuki

Its cool. Your style would be great to see as fully fledged comic series. Good luck to you yo

Maginpui

Congrats! As mother of a recently published comic, I can definitely tell you it’s a lot of work but rewarding. Don’t worry about what people say. Let the work speak for itself. Much well wishing. XOXO -Mani

I'm cheering for you!
