Hey ya'll. So I thought some of you might like to take a peek at my process for HSH. Attached are some thumbnails for the comic along with a look at the script. I typically start each page by envisioning it in my head, and then writing out the dialog and actions for each panel on page. The writing goes through small changes up until the point it's placed on the comic (sometimes dialog changes to better suit finished artwork).
The thumbnails are incredibly loose (to the point of being nothing more than scribbles), but they are kept this way for a reason. It may not look like it, but each page is carefully thought out. Panels are arranged and rearraged, resized and experimented with over and over. The drawings are done quickly so I can erase them and try new ones when the previous ones don't work. Once the thumbnails are in place the process of working out the sketch happens, where each panel is cared for, and refined up close into a solid sketch with details and fleshed out anatomy. After that lines and blacks are applied with as much precision as time allows before moving on to tones and editing.
I am still searching for ways to further streamline my process and get more pages done quickly, but for now the priority is still quality over quantity, and of course, to learn. Hopefully the knowledge I gain here will aid me in creating high quality comics for a long time to come. I hope you guys are digging the comic so far and everything else. Please feel free to drop a line or leave some feedback!
Thanks so much for your support and for helping me create comics and art!
