Mini Composition Tutorial!

topic again in future when I have a better understanding of all its
components. Composition is a challenge, but it can make or break your
image. Unfortunately, this aspect of picture making is often on the low
end of study for many artists. In this tutorial, we'll discuss two
things; arrangement, and direction. Our goal is to create compositions
that clarify our ideas and elicit the range of emotions we wish to
convey. Good compositions do exactly that.

But seriously, at the start of the year when they asked up to "Thumbnail" our character, I was lost and confused, this simple description perfectly captures what I slowly had to learn over the next month or so and SO much more that I have yet to learn in the slightest. Thanks for the insight into your process :)

2015-09-05 01:26:06 +0000 UTCThanks Paul! Doing this made me realize that composition can be a difficult subject to talk about because there are so many different aspects of it. I wanted this one to be longer, but right now this is what I understand the most... Good composition comes in many forms, and for any given idea, there are several good options... but I think what it comes down to is, does the composition support what you're trying to say? Does it clarify your idea or confuse it? Is there something important that the viewer needs to see? Are there strong positional relationships between the important subjects of the image? Take away all the detail, clutter, and fancy effects... does it still tell the story then? There is a lot to learn, and I think this is the most exciting part of illustration to me.
