Demo 1 + more thoughts on VR

And lo, the people threw tomatoes.  And they did smite the jester upon the face, and pelvis, and kneecap.

Okay so most of the gripes have been about how you don't want to buy VR to play the game.  I had some other thoughts on this.

1) The game, built in Unity, is going to be accessible through VRchat which can be played using desktop.  It's definitely not the same experience but it will be somewhat possible.

2) I can turn these video sequences into animated gifs and add them into twine instead.  To be honest I'm okay with reverting back to the original simplistic coding style.  It's just been a train of coders coming in, making the game so complicated I can't edit it easily, then leaving randomly and leaving me with a mess.  If you want to criticize the coding, build it yourself and then stick around to manage it, is the attitude I'll be taking from now on.

I never meant it to be purely VR but it is just... holy shit its really hot.  The voiceover for this sequence isn't done yet but it should happen soonish.

So those are the options.  Let me know in the comments below.

Color me curious with what you’re showing here in the vid, though I’ll lay down how much I want to support it when you make one that’s fitting your current ideas (audio, animations, etc) until then I’ll support what I came here for.

While it is your creation to do with as you please... I would ask that you work on the current format game and advance the story line first. yes, I like where you are going with the VR idea, but it is going to take a lot of time and refinement.

Brian C

I'm with CthulhusDream on this one. I'm just not up for the change in format. If that's what you've got your heart set on, more power to you, but it's not a project I'm interested in putting my money towards.

StarcraftJunkie

this would probably be the best option, it would keep the game as we've come to enjoy it while still giving Anon the chance to build his fan base and get in contact with coders that are looking for a longer project for a future vr parasite game

Argamenta

Both options are still a hard pass for me. I like where the game was headed but I'm out for sure. Good luck, I hope you find what your looking for.

CthulhusDream

I have no issue with the price of VR. I have issue with the rapid, unasked for direction change of a product I am paying for. I love your game, and I love the Mode7 art, if (or once) the game moves away from the direction it's headed now, I will be leaving. I have no interest in VR or 3D animations being inside the game, as it will break any amount of immersion that I have in it.

I can sympathize with having to deal with coders coming and going. That would drive me up a wall since few coders want to then turn around and deal with another person’s code. The solution there is to know what you want when they start and have them make it modular and easy to edit as the primary concern. Then if they leave you and you need something new the new coder doesn’t have to scrap everything to make it work. As for VR I’m still resolute that I’ll respectfully have to end my support if that’s the direction it goes in for two reasons. Firstly the fact it’s tied to VR chat creates a liability from a legal standpoint where all the content even if I enjoy it can be revoked and progress can be halted because of a legal dispute. Eventually VR chat is going to find out about it, and that is not a good position to be in. Secondly and more importantly VR chat for 3d animations is horrible. I’m all game for some expertly crafted or even medium end 3d animations that can be viewed in VR, but not for low end VR chat animation quality. There are some fantastic 3d animations available online and that’s the standard this project would be judged by. VR chat can’t even equal Source Film maker in quality of models and animation fidelity. What allowed the project to work was the amazing art, and writing. VR chat animations are arguably a massive downgrade and in such a way that it detracts from what came before. I’d be skeptical about plant parasites in Source filmmaker, but have no faith for them in VR chat. As amazing as a parasite vr experience would be, it’d work best as viewable movie, a direction the VR industry needs to look into.

wouldnt it make more sense to finish parasite infection in twine then move to a vr project if you really want to do vr?

Gizmo

Well hot damn that looks pretty good to start. I'm guessing you'll interrupt player control dependent on the parasite control, slowly blending in the two over time should give a pretty good experience of becoming a passenger in your own body <3

The current way of the game is cool , and like you said " you have 9 chapters to offer " . It's really great you have an "after" project for it , or a more interactive way to push forward the game . But clearly , if you need a team start with roots with them and gather them to help with the interactive storie atm . With them you can go on the next step and do VR version together . I'm maybe selfish but the way i see things is you need to cool of about this side idea . i don't want demotivating you , it's fun and with Vr it will be omnious the voice sound etc ... so yeah great idea . Ps : as joke don't put the skrieek sound in it ^^

Mr Allaria

I guess it's ok (wish it wasn't anime style but maybe it was just a handy model). I'm not really wowed by it because there are other projects already in development and you can even mod Skyrim to do a lot more... Still, it might be a better idea to do this project after you complete the other one or set up some kind of schedule (maybe alternating?) Unfortunately, patreon's structure doesn't allow you support specific project(s) for a given developer.

Lee Thompson

Check it again now, I changed it from Private to Unlisted. If still no, I'll try to upload it to pornhub instead of youtube.

Anon Smith

Goddamnit.

video isnt available...

It sounds like some solid code and code documentation rules are what's really needed in order to keep it maintainable. Also the youtube video is inaccessible, by the way.

I understand you want to seriously explore the VR possibilities and I completely encourage them but please. Focus on polishing the main game right now instead of going on a wild tangent that will take time away from developing it. Vr can be done whanever it is right.

Please do go back to the simple stuff, the game was most enjoyable then anyway imo. You claim you need more funding to hire a team, but you don't get that by abandoning ship halfway through what you're currently working on to shoot off in a completely different direction.

Troqu

Totally love the idea of a VR experience, sounds like a horror game fr

Ok I love my VR setup it's fun as hell, but fairly inaccessible to the average person. Yes VR chat can be played without a VR rig but it's kinda clunky. From an artist choice standpoint do what you're passionate about, if VR interests you do that. but be aware that VR is a very small demographic to build a game for so your donations may slow down. But on the other hand I love VR and what can be done with it, and would love to see some niche porn involved.

acanthan

Well first things first the video is unavailable.
