2.32b "nonworking brain infest update"

Unified and expanded the werm brain infestation. In the previous version, there were 3 different types of brain infestation depending on where you were in the story. I created a single unified system which should handle both the main character and the NPC's. However, it's got this weird bug due to how Twine handles arrays. The next step is to redo how the data is initially generated and handled, which should help with a ton of other bugs and weird code in the system. Brain infestation works for the main character but not for NPC's in this version.

On the plus side, I feel like I've finally come upon a system that has some potential for describing the brain infestation. You may or may not have realized that I've been redoing the werm brain infestation over and over, scrapping the whole thing and trying to create a web of circular choices. I just couldn't find anything that worked. And this is a core feature. The brain infestation is kind of a centerpiece of this whole game. I think the system I built for this update finally has potential, it just needs to be refined.

The issue was how to 'draw it out' and make the event feel long and important yet not convoluted, but at the same time allow for multiple outcomes. I tried several methods, but there just wasn't that sense of progression that I was searching for. That feeling of slow-takeover. So... I finally thought 'fuck it, what about a progress bar?' So I built a mechanic around manipulating a progress bar. And holy shit, I think it actually works.

It's pretty rough right now, but the available mechanics should allow for a resistant outcome (you attempt to slow down the parasite as much as possible), a normal outcome, and a slutty outcome (you help it as much as possible).

Going to work on getting a viable update out this weekend.

Very cool! This is much more communicative from you to me as to what you're trying to achieve in game. Before it was up in the air but by having this direct visual feedback as well as the flavour text we can see what's happening overall :)
