I've started to realize that, since going pretty much fully digital on the comic, my sketching skills have deteriorated rather badly. I find myself slapping down some crappy linework, and then spending way too long "fixing" it digitally.
I should just have to tweak a few lines here and there, but instead I find myself practically rebuilding the entire drawing line by line.
A few extra minutes taking care on the original [digital] inking stage, could save an hour or more in the cleanup stage.
Plus I've been trying to convince a few other artists to do more 'extracurricular' work- art for art's sake, rather than never doing anything but what goes up in a strip. :)
So my first challenge was this- just headshots, any character, any pose, any expression. It's awfully rough, I no longer have the desk space to set up my clipboard, so I just had to use my lap- a drawing position I'm not used to.
I want to do this semi-regularly, and I'm thinking of going back to doing the original linework pen-on-paper, at least for the occasional comic, so feel free to suggest poses or characters.
Oh, and the Swampy & Jinx storyline will be going live on the main page in a few weeks, so no more updates here. It's all colored and there's even more strips, I think you'll all like it!
