After being called a narcissist at work* for having an opinion, I have been trying to figure out how to more effectively communicate skepticism and science. The angle I've been trying to develop is appealing to a person's sense of being right and that they are being deceived. I agree with them on a couple of their points and offer an alternative view. I also try to work in critical thinking skills where possible. I think it's been effective since, I'm told, "They keep their bullshit to themselves when you're around, they know you'll push back." * After the office pariah retired, I took over the role. A coworker took it upon himself to yell at me inches from my face for five minutes in front of everyone and correct me: Apparently, I was wrong, Bill Cosby wasn't a rapist. I only said, "I don't know about all of that, but he admitted it in his deposition." His response was a mumbled "I don't know anything about that" and slink off to his desk. So much for all that bullshit violence in the workplace training; not one person intervened. When I reported harassment, it died with management. I don't recommend working for Raytheon. If you have to, keep looking for another employer.
