My prediction is: inflation up, US dollar tanks, DOGE coin becomes global currency, gas prices up, interest rates up, homelessness up, crime up, unwanted children up, child poverty up, female deaths up, Walmart will close stores due to tariffs and social safety nets going away, overfilled senior living communities, elderly homelessness way up, polio and smallpox back, probably a civil war then Russia and China ally and take Alaska and Hawaii. Just for starters. Armageddon is here.

Now the final nail will be driven in with the dismantling of the education system and religious privatization of public schools. It’s going to get so much worse. Living in a Blue or Purple State won’t matter. Trump will force States to bend to his will by choking funding. Only States that don’t rely on Fed funding for literally anything will survive somewhat intact. Red States wanted this so they are going to get what they deserve. Either way WE ARE FUCKED.

2024-11-16 14:06:07 +0000 UTCThe economic argument is not sufficient to explain what happened. If you talk to Trump supporters, they say that government is corrupt and useless. What we need is a strong person who understands the problems with those uppity elites who don’t understand ordinary people. All the things that the educated Americans know is true are the things Trump tells them are lies. If we have a smart and strong dictator (like Putin), the problems with democracy will end. We will be happy with the religious rules making our country uniform. They are smarter than us because Trump is who God wants. And Trump will obey the people who God appoints through him to stop all the sinning and make our country wonderful like Russia. (Or what Hitler and the axis powers almost accomplished.) If you question the idea, please remember that the rally attendees wore bandages on their ears after God saved Trump from the assassin.

2024-11-15 22:53:36 +0000 UTCThe problem is that it is a cult. Literally. I suggest that everyone read the book “Cultish” by Amanda Montell who is a linguist. It doesn’t include the psychological factors that describe how cults work with language in detail, but although the book is about world wide cults of all sizes. Trump is only mentioned in a couple of passing sentences, but it isn’t possible to see how the whole situation comes right out of the playbook.

2024-11-15 22:38:35 +0000 UTCThis story reminded me about a story from years ago. I am not Italian. An Italian friend invited us to come for Thanksgiving dinner. When the pasta with salad was served (after appetizers before dinner), I can remember that I thought it was odd, but I love pasta so I had a great meal. It was cleared away, and I wondered if I had left room for dessert when the turkey and trimmings appeared! At least you had a break before that. I tried to be polite by taking very small portions and pushing it around on my plate.
