Patrons we need your help! SGU Fav moments

SGU Patrons,

Our 1000th show is coming fast so we are embarking on a task, A BIG TASK. We want you to help us collect the best SGU moments over the last 1000 shows. One way we thought we could make this feasible is to ask you to help listen to our back catalog. We created the following spreadsheet where you can claim one or more past episodes. You listen to those shows and, using our spreadsheet, enter the timestamps of your favorite parts. You can select multiple episodes but please only one patron per episode.

So please click through the link and put your name next to the episode(s) you want to claim. Let us know if you have any questions!

Thank you!

-The SGU

Just wanted to thank you for a nice incentive to revisit the archives! It was a lot of fun, and Steve really does have a huge opinion on acupuncture. I think I can recite his arguments by heart, it was probably one of the speeches repeated the most.

Tuesday of next week.

When's the last day to use this spreadsheet?

Thank you. I am now going to see how many episodes close to my birthday that I can listen to. I just claimed # 20 and #70.

Hey Cindy. Let’s say that the latest episode of the SGU is 1 hour and 30 minutes long. When you play the podcast, your podcast player will show you how much of the show you listened to using a timestamp. If you listened to 15 minutes and ten seconds of the show you can visually see 15:10 on the podcast player. Apples podcast player also shows how much time is left. So, when you hear the start of a noteworthy segment, pause your player and look for the timestamp.

First I want to say, I will be 60 years old in November. That is my excuse for not being tech savvy. I want to help because I love the SGU podcast. I have listened to all your podcasts. I never miss any, but I have no memory of when I started listening to it. I want to say it was around episode 300. I listened to the past episodes till I caught up with the current episodes. I have heard people say the word time stamp in podcasts and YouTube videos but I don’t know what a “timestamp” is. Please tell what a timestamp is, then I will start helping.

+1 to what Ben said. It would be great if there was a searchable SGU database, and cool stats/ insights dashboards on top. Wiki needs updates as well, not sure how many folks knows a out it but crowdsource options are there. Maybe extra perks for Patrons?

We are working on an SGU Chat GPT.

Have the SGU considered doing something similar to this but to create a searchable repository of all the knowledge and information contained in all the 1000 episodes? Like, somehing where you'd be able to search through and hear all the times they have commented or discussed whichever topic?

Soylent pink is peeoopleee! -Steve on the topic of the making of chicken nuggets. Cracked me up.

Star_Fox

Also the Uncle Bob dance.

WATERMELON!

I also liked the episode where Cara appeared as a guest; from that moment on, I thought, “Pick her!”

Linda Steiner

I remember Steven and Cara joked she's joining SGU because she's "different", while implied because she's not a guy like the rest or rogues - they said because she has tatoos 😁

"Hellooooo" - Bob

Sam Davies

Over a decade ago there was a discussion about Star Trek and the perceived 'primitivity' of the language of the inhabitants of Gamma Trianguli VI, 'stinger bug' etc, with an observation that certain inhabitants of earth use primitive language to describe, as Rebecca says, 'the place where the fire is'. But I've absolutely no idea how to find the episode.

Paul

I think my all-time favorite moment was the day you announced that Cara was joining the Rogues.

Elaine Jones

All the platforms pull from the same media server. If they are off for any reason it will be tiny ;)

The Skeptics' Guide To The Universe

So many great interviews in the early years! Very curious Rogue's take on how that has fell off. Probably hard to find genuine people vs cranks wanting a platform.

Jacob Block

There was an early episode where you had a Bigfoot hunter as a guest? Or did I dream that...?

Niall Shakeshaft

Beak flip... RIP Perry...

Niall Shakeshaft

Not exactly one moment but the monkey-bird war has to be in there

AnvilOfDoom

I loved the episode with Rebecca that discussed DNA. Surviving in the outside of a rocket. Many comments about how and what DNA got on the outside of the rocket, LMFAO!!! 😂

Seanbob Kelly

I know it was in 2007 because it's in the 2007 year in review epiosde, but I can't which episode it was where Bob was taking too long to answer Science or Fiction, and Steve played some interlude music I think from Monty Python. That was hilarious!

Randy Monteiro

Jay & Ian - does it matter which file is used to time stamp? I assume there might be differences between Spotify, Patron, website etc. recordings (e.g. if an ad was included).

Oliwia Bieniek

One of my faves was when Steve read out a neuroscience news item an day asked if he knew of the issue before, leading Steve to say something like "will no, not till I read the article, that's why it's 'news'" ...
