As I recall, the drop in the speed limit was actually to conserve gas (remember the gas crisis under Carter?), but the reason later morphed into "55 saves lives" after it was noticed that the drop in speed also resulted in lower death rates from accidents.

I'm with George, I resist the "My songs were better than what's coming out today" mentality. Jay, don't worry about the lack of gatekeeping, the algorithms will reign us in and assimilate everything.
