The book The God Impulse examines every aspect of NDEs and explains all of the phenomenon in natural and scientific ways. However, the author (an MD) takes about the most uncritical, but not gullible approach to the stories he has gathered. To be fair, I think he does this so that people will open up honestly about their experiences. He hears them but doesn't judge them. The book also ends in a very unexpected way. It's not often a non-fiction book ends with a twist.

It is not a benign, hypothetical threat. It is an economic and militaristic powerhouse. It does not tolerate dissent internally, nor externally. A New Zealand journalist was outspoken about China's activities in the Antarctic that breaks treaty. Her house was raided, overturned, ransacked, and nothing stolen. No potential leads for who might have done it. Coincidence? Possibly. But the odds are too long to just blow it off. I have zero doubt that TikTok is sharing information with the gov't. The one thing definitely within the power of the US gov't is to ban it from all gov't computers. Let's not forget the recent incidents of balloons China drifted over numerous countries to "collect weather data." When dealing with dictatorships, it would be foolish to take their word at face value, only a fool would. I'm a skeptic, not an idiot. The question isn't is the Chinese gov't collecting data, lack of evidence is evidence of lack. The question should be given China's history and activities, is there evidence they can be trusted? Trust is earned. As for "they're a corporation trying to make money and collecting data like every other company" doesn't mean shit. That's false equivalency. The question that we should be asking is are they protecting that data from their own gov't? I doubt it. Switch out China for North Korea and ask all the same questions. If you're answers change, then you should really examine what's going on with China. The same with Russia. I would never install anything that came from Russia, any more than I would China. The skeptical action here isn't to extend the principle of charity to China (or Russia or North Korea) and interpret their words in the best possible light, but to be cautious with your charity. China is not an individual, it's a state power with many hidden agendas.

2024-07-03 19:29:58 +0000 UTCWhat always irked me about out of body experiences is that, what we see is not an objective representation of what things in the world “look” like - the conscious experience of seeing things is just an emergent phenomenon of our brains responding to photons hitting our eyeballs. So even if there was a soul, and even if that soul did float around outside our bodies when near death, it makes no sense that it would “see” the world in the same way we do. Am I crazy?
