Interview with Jessica McCabe of How to ADHD; Special Segment: Zelle Scams; News Items: Neuromorphic Supercomputer, Sodium Ion Batteries, Lab Grown Coffee, Lunar Anthropocene; Who's That Noisy; Your Questions and E-mails: Nazi Synthetic Fuel; Who Said That; Science or Fiction
Just catching up on missed episodes over holiday season... SO interested in the bit about Deep South.
A question... if the 'computer' is based on essentially simulating the human brain architecture, will the resulting system be subject to the same challenges - ie we don't store a 'photo' of what we see but an amalgam that changes over time (hence we are actually very poor eye-witnesses). Will these systems have the same cognitive biases?

Great interview. Jessica's YT channel made me aware of my own ADHD. Before I stumbled across it, I thought my weirdness was just idiosyncratic :-)

Regarding academics doing science communication, I recently came across this YouTuber. https://youtube.com/@acollierastro?si=zo_r4WD8nnbfkioO she's really good. Her field of research is dark matter. I'd live to see her as a guest on the show.

After listening to the battery story I was trying to think whether you have ever talked about zinc bromine flow batteries and can't remember if you have but I suspect not. I'm surprised they don't get more attention. We have a company in Australia who is already manufacturing zinc bromine batteries for commercial applications and also have a residential size battery that is available for purchase and being rolled out. I am considering one for my future home build. They are a bit more expensive and a little larger but they have two main advantages - they have zero capacity loss over time unlike lithium, and they don't have the thermal runaway risk of lithium. The company is redflow and the residential battery model is the ZBM3 battery. I believe they are going to be doing commercial scale batteries in the US. Why are we still talking about lithium for residential or commercial batteries when the zinc bromine batteries have the advantages they do?

Listening to this podcast (or occasionally other podcasts) on Saturdays has become an important part of how I keep up with household chores, which is good for my overall health. It's like the fidget toys to help me focus on the right thing and not get distracted. (So thanks, SGU!)
I think I have some level of executive function challenge, and I've not sought a diagnosis, because I have access to the accommodations I need without it at the moment.
Instagram videos initially made me think some traits overlap with neurodivergence. So, I credit the "ND movement" with giving me some clarity of myself and tools for making life easier.

If you have any kind of pending activity with your bank account - it ABSOLUTELY WILL show up when you log in to the account. If you don't see what they are talking about, it IS a scam. If you do see what they are talking about, contact the bank directly YOURSELF - NO PATCH THROUGH CRAP - inquire about what you see on your screen.
BTW, look up "Scammer Payback" on YouTube. It is a hoot!
