For a good book on synesthesia read Wednesday is Indigo Blue. The Head Teacher (UK equivalent to Superintendent/Principal) at my daughter's school is a synesthetic. When I mentioned the book to her she said, "Actually, it's green." Some synesthetics do perceive letters, numbers, and dates/days in color. Some academics have dismissed this as a result of children's colored letter magnets, but it was documented long before the children's magnets were invented. Some can also perceive numbers and letters as having spatial relationships to each other.
