I think Steve may have finally gotten through to me. If there is a chance of finding any critical thinking common ground, particularly—though by no means exclusively—with someone who amasses independent wealth, then we should take it. And further to Steve’s critique of political factionalism in skepticism, I am reconsidering my subscription to Skeptic magazine. I canceled it last year because I felt it amounted to an endorsement with my hard-earned time and money of the libertarianism that Dr. Shermer espouses and that I reject. I belatedly understand that I agree with more in that publication than I disagree with.
