Bi-weekly post

Hey,

Just the usual status post. Still here, still working.

I'd like to post something, but I don't really have anything worth showing, other than Master's fixed clothes. Basically I managed to get rid of the wiggly stuff which was present on the previous playblast, so there's that, even if it took much more time than I'd have liked for such a relatively small visual glitch, but once I started fixing it, I couldn't just stop attempting. Anyway it works now, so that's that.

Other than that, I've been stuck with learning, and technical issues with Bifrost and how to get Redshift to render it properly, since by default it only supports Arnold. And various other related issues.

However! I seem to have finally got everything working on the technical side, so I should have something proper to show, during the coming week, assuming something new doesn't pop up again that is. So thing's aren't quite as bleak as the previous paragraph makes it sound.

I feel I should post an updated overall status as well:

1. I'm still aiming to get simulation done before the end of the year. However, that could bleed a bit to January, I am slightly behind schedule due to the above mentioned issues. So probably roughly a month to go, give or take. It's hard to estimate, since there's a lot of things involved I'm not extremely experienced with, even if I've done them before in the past, at least to some extent. Also the Holidays are approaching, and I do not know the exact plans for that yet, so there's an unknown amount of days, during which I won't be able to work, as I'll be visiting family and relatives.

2. After simulation are done, I'll start working on Render Setup (Lighting, materials and so on), for which I've allocated roughly a month in the overall schedule. This is based on previous projects, but again, there's some new things I'd like to try in this phase also, so those are a slight question mark, and potential causes for delay. So, if all goes well, 1. and 2. step could be done in roughly 2 months.

3. After that, there's rendering. Depending on whether there's regulations on power usage or not during that time, due to the situation in Europe, this will take anywhere from 20-50 days. Although this also depends on my rendering target. That calculation is based on the usual average 1 minute per frame (total 60 000 frames) target I try to aim for. But ideally I'll try to keep the total render time under 40 days. I'm also considering getting a 4090 to help with render speeds, but haven't made a decision on that yet.

4. Once renders are done, only post processing and slight audio balancing remains, which usually takes roughly a week, assuming no major re-rendering needed, to fix any potential glitches and what not that I might have missed during the render setup stage.

5. That's it, all done. Final release (1080p)

6. 4K release and the semi-VR release will follow later. 4K will take at least a few months to render, and VR version probably slightly longer. They will be rendered on a separate PC, so they won't stop me from working on new projects during that time. Total render time for 4K is likely to be anywhere between 50-120 days. VR maybe 60-200.

That's all for now, I'll keep you posted!

Concierge does not support Maya. They do have redshift support with cinema 4D, but I'm not sure if it works with redshift standalone. I did check some farms for pricing, and rendering the 1080p version would cost roughly 3000€ in the ones that I looked at. At that price, I think I'd rather get a new GPU.

I highly recommend hiring a renderfarm for that, I’ve been using concierge render farm for over a year and they’re amazing, they have good prices and the job gets done extremely fast.
