Today, we are talking about the multi-piece Shamisen. Some Tsugaru Shamisen can actually be disassembled into 3 parts!

With a multi-part Shamisen and the right case, you can bring it as carry-on luggage on trains and planes. This helps avoid the risk of damage that often happens when instruments are checked in. We strongly recommend carrying it with you instead of checking it.

The Shamisen does not come apart with tools or force. It is carefully crafted by Japanese artisans to come apart only with the right technique, using a specific motion or angle.

Even if you have disassembled your Shamisen before, it’s a good idea to review the key points. Many experienced players have damaged their instruments by rushing or missing steps.

When we travel abroad, airport security can be strict. Disassembled Shamisen often do not look like instruments. Some players have even had to assemble and play their Shamisen at the airport to prove it is a musical instrument.

To make things smoother, we recommend keeping a photo of your fully assembled Shamisen inside the case. This helps explain what it is at a glance.

今日は三味線の三つ折りのお話です！大きな楽器をどうやって長距離移動の電車や飛行機に持ち込んでいるか気になっている方も多いはず。実は津軽三味線は分解できるんです！

三つ折り用のケースは飛行機でも手荷物で持ち込めるので壊れる心配がありません。飛行機に乗る際に、津軽三味線を預け荷物に預けると破損の確率が高いのでやめましょう。

といっても、この三つの分解方法にはちょっとコツがいります。なぜかと言うと、器具があったり、引っ張ったりして簡単に外れるものではないからです。

日本の職人の技術によって、ある角度から手で振動を与えると簡単に外れるようにできています。

おまけの話
輝&輝も海外遠征でよく飛行機に乗りますが、海外だと三つ折りにした津軽三味線は楽器に見えないようで保安検査場のチェックがとっても厳しくなります。実際に三味線を組み立てて空港で演奏したと言う奏者もいるほど。すぐに楽器だとわかってもらえるように完成した三味線の写真をケースの中に入れておくとわかりやすくスムーズに伝わります！

糸巻きがついている天神の部分、真ん中の棹、1番下の胴と三つに分解することができます。三味線を折りたたむと、ケースも長く大きいケースから、コンパクトなケースに入れて持ち運べるようになります。
