Animation Experiment #2, Revision A

I've been continuing work on learning my new animation program, Moho, and getting familiar with the ins and outs.

This is a revised version of my 2nd animation experiment ( here » ). I have tweaked some of the movements, added particle effects for the water gun (my first try, so it still needs polish), AAAAND a small addition of a voice clip.

This voice clip was recorded in August 1999. You read that right -- over 25 years ago. It is from a series of short sound clips that my wife, Juliekat (who was my girlfriend at the time), recorded for what was going to be an animated NaviGirl 4 (made with Flash). That project was never finished, but I still have (most) of the recordings. I used a small part of one to add voice to this animation experiment.

NaviGirl 4: As part of the Fanatic-$11 and Zealot-$20 levels, I had posted drawings of NaviGirl 4 as part of these tiers' Archived Pencil rewards back between Dec. 2021 and Jan. 2022. I just opened those 3 (of 5) posts to all tiers, $3 and higher: [ NG4 Drawings 1 ] [ NG4 Drawings 2 ] [ NG4 Drawings 3 ]

Animation Experiment #2, Revision A

Comments

Only sketches so far. And a few color frames from the animation. I just found the movie files for the promo (NaviGirl 4 — Kat), but they're in ".swf" format (Flash movie). I need to figure out how to convert to mp4.

Thanks for the elaboration! It's good to know you're already thinking along all those lines and more. Inflate123's audio pack would have been my next suggestion, although I personally prefer Expandinator's. There are some tracks in his that hit just right for me. It's great that you've been able to finally branch out into animation after all these years and I hope you stick with it. I still remember finding your old animated promo for Navigirl 4 or 5 back on the BEArchive. I can't recall, have you released that on here yet or just the sketches for it?

That New Shoe Smell

All fair comments. The face was simply "morphed" using mesh tools, and definitely not refined. I was hoping for a more over-all test on what is doable — can I get body movement, facial movement, effects, voice, growth, and moving shadows (under her breasts) all in one? Yes. Think of this like the early robots that still were either hooked up to cables or had giant battery packs on. It's not those sleek robots dogs, just yet. This revision was done on a Sunday evening after dinner for about 2-3 hours of work (and rewatching training videos 😁). Another thing to note is this was taken from a premade piece that was sliced (and edited) to become a moving puppet. The straight-on pose of this character really helps. I know Boobdollz's work, and was inspired by it a long time ago to go this route (this was my intention way back in December 2023 before all hell broke loose). A lot of his animated artwork was created with animation in mind. The voice was added as a first-time try of sound to the animation within Moho. Had to learn how before doing it. There is definitely more work that is needed there, or, training in another video editor to add sound. It's a lot of work on top of all my other creations that I do (which cannot be slowed or stopped to work on animation since it's my current income). I recently downloaded a library of sounds from the venerable inflationist, Inflate123. I didn't know about Expandinator's sound library (found it, BTW). Thanks for the tip! (I've been supporting him on Patreon for a while.) Animation seems to be the way forward, based on feedback from other creators and just my observation of others' work. This, along with widening my reach to other selling platforms, is my lifeline. Creating a for-animation piece and then animating it is a lot of work. But I hope to get better and help speed up the production time. Because of this, I have to then decide how to distribute it — a Patreon reward, or an individual sale, or both. Adding animation to Patreon would require a change in content, most likely dropping 2 or even 3 images per month. Here's hoping for a brighter future! 🤞🤞

This is a marked improvement on your previous animation tests! You're definitely getting better with the program, though I feel you still have a ways to go. The facial animation looks kinda...mushy? I get the feeling you might have to split up the separate facial elements like how it's done in Live2D. More work, but better quality. I'd also recommend reaching out to the artist Boobdollz for animation advice, if you haven't already. His animation style seems like the next few steps in yours. Kudos to Juliekat for the recording! Nice piece of BE history right there. If you don't already have a source lined up for sound effects, then I'd recommend checking out Expandinator's BE SFX Pack. I can hook you up with it if you aren't able to find it. (PS: I grinned when I saw which piece you were animating. lol)
