Frotcast 660: I'll Have (Drugs) What He's (The President) Having, ft Allison Mick

Returning frotchamp Allison Mick re- joins the Frotcast this week to discuss her upcoming book Humboldt Cut, plus the standard farts n’ doo doo-type stuff you’ve come to expect from this deeply stupid podcast.

Vanity Fair got an up-close look at the key members of the current White House cabinet. And boy, was it ever up and close. Close enough to see the lip injection marks on Karoline Leavitt’s face, in fact. The photos are so bad, and the subjects are so stupid, that we’ve blown past “the article that directly quoted me is a hit piece” and moved onto “the article that directly photo’d me is a hit piece”. There has truly never been a better time in human history to be the dumbest person you went to high school with.

Staying in the West Wing, we talk about the completely deranged “Presidential Walk Of Fame” that Trump had placed in the White House colonnade. What does it mean when the leader of the free world needs more than one metal plaque to air the grievances of a guy who was last in office a decade ago? Buddy, you don’t have enough plaques for the answer.

Sadly, we have to talk about the big Hollywood news this week, the murder of Rob Reiner and his wife. His son is due to be arraigned on murder charges in January, and if convicted, he could quite possibly become the 2nd most notorious fatal stabber in the history of Brentwood. Nice job, idiot.

In honor of Reiner’s prolific film career, we discussed his incredible run of hits that spanned the 1980s, and we watched the newly released Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. It’s a misleading title due to the fact that the movie does in fact end. Just like this summary! Solid B+

Pre-order Humboldt Cut here.

Comments

"The Vonnegut of music" is incredible. The Captain Beefheart of a precious time.

Kevin Banos

Literally came here to comment that Matt should listen to the song 'Yo Mama' as his one song example of why people liked the man's music. I too had friends in H.S. who liked this album and would sing that song. Let me state that I was not a fan, but I guess Zappa was a guitar wizard of some sort.

Lol

No one was combing the internet looking for people to fire and deport over Rob Reiner jokes.

A little late chiming in on this one, but I remember some of my friends in high school being fans of Zappa’s 1979 LP, “Sheik Yerbouti.” Can’t vouch for the musical content but the lyrics of “Broken Hearts Are for Assholes” and “Bobby Brown” left an impression. Very lum song adjacent. Zappa’s has always struck me as a case of “What if The Fuggs had stuck around for decades and become huge…?”

William Habington

Stand by Me is an excellent movie, Matt you be trippin

Mankind wasn't ever maga. Pretty sure he's always been a cool dude. But I'm not like a wrestling guy

Damn y'all are way more ruthless with the rob reiner jokes than you were when Charlie skrrrrt got jugg'd

Frank Zappa is 67 for Boomers.

I am not a big Zappa fan but I do recommend the Alex Winter doc. Here’s the thing with Zappa. He is a very talented composer and guitarist. Also, as you mention, his sense of humor comes down to “I’m smarter than you.” Combine his musical skills and his sense of humor, and you get a hardcore fanbase of music snobs who enjoy knowing that they are smarter than everyone else. One of the reasons Zappa became stayed famous is because other musicians liked him. He gets mentioned in Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water.” John Lennon jammed with him at the Fillmore East. He’s a musician’s musician.

The NYT crossword puzzle often uses Roger Ebert’s review of North as the basis for a clue. I think he said “hated” five times in a row or something. Now I’m imagining Matt reading that review in his ebert impression

The original spinal tap isn’t that funny? Tell me you aren’t a musician without telling me you aren’t a musician.

Kyle Hermann

I know a Zappa apologist and he claims The Hot Rats Sessions are a good entry. Not for me, chin stroking nonsense imo.
