Message

To our valued Patreon supporters.

We are aware that some of you have voiced disappointment over the length of our end of year break and we want you to know that we take your feedback seriously.

As others have kindly pointed out, other than a short break over Christmas, we will not be taking holidays during this time. A great deal of time and care goes into producing every single Casefile episode (roughly a month of work for a one hour episode), and the writing team will be using the break to get ahead for 2025. We are already busy behind the scenes working on next year's episodes and going off air for a while ensures we can keep bringing you weekly episodes during the regular schedule, while ensuring the ongoing wellbeing of our team members.

With that said, we genuinely appreciate each and every one of our premium subscribers and we don’t want anyone to feel short changed. If you feel like you’ve been shortened in any way, please send us a DM and we will provide you with a refund of either your monthly or annual subscription, whichever you feel is warranted.

Thanks for your understanding.

Casey and the team.

Perfect time to go check out other good podcasts, like the Fall Line and They Walk Among Us :)

Marcela Ghosh

While I wasn't one of the people expressing the issue of the break, voicing disappointment isn't "bitching".

Jaye Leppky

We don't get breaks like that in Canada.

Jaye Leppky

The early episodes didn't have a "team" producing them. It was just Casey in the beginning, and then for awhile it was just him and a producer he hired to work with him. Once the money started rolling in he was able to hire more and more people. Eventually it came to the point where – I'm pretty sure – Casey doesn't even do any script writing, or even produce. He just narrates.

Jaye Leppky

A month to complete a one hour episode seems like a stretch to me....

Jaye Leppky

From 12/1 - mid Feb?

Kristen

Perhaps they’re aware of this, though, and take advantage of patron loyalty to take an almost 3 month sabbatical. That won’t work in today’s UGC / influencer / content-driven world.

Kristen

I’m sorry - I don’t buy this. With the outsourcing to writers and AI - it should not take a month of prep for one episode. Also - Not getting any value out of being a patron - you end up releasing the premium episodes that are supposed to be exclusive to patrons. Finally - does anyone ever respond to comments on here?

Kristen

We all deserve a break. Yes, i dont like it, but, I know it's worth the wait!!

Jermaine Robertson

Take your time. You can’t rush good quality. 😃

Matt

Went back and listened to every episode going back to 2016. The early ones are less enjoyable as you can really see how the Casefile team honed and strengthened the audio, narrator perspective and tone. So pumped for the next episode!

Morborg BR.

Highest quality independent podcast = worth supporting- since I have listened to EVERYTHING- I am eager for more. Your break is well deserved. Perhaps during next year’s break you could release/re-release the first episode of the other podcast you’ve produced to help us find those we might have missed?

Amanda

👏🏼👏🏼 💯

Jess Ashlee

Your pieces are well-written and not churned out. Take your time.

S. Martin

Been with you for years now, first as a casual listener, then as a patreon supporter. Never once have regretted it! As others have pointed out, please take all the time you need. Unlike others, I don't have another podcast that fits my pacing and writing preferences quite like Casefile, so I am happy to wait as long as need be!!

Cameron DelaCerna

Casefile: Have been with you from the start. Take whatever breaks necessary to produce the podcast we love and you will have our support.

DaveC

Sorry to hear of unkind comments. Everyone deserves some downtime. Enjoy!

Annie Roussy

The team does fantastic work and uses this break to take time off and to produce more excellent shows. I too get impatient over what seems like a long break, but if this is what they need to keep producing their fantastic programs while maintainng the highest standards of quality, then let them have their well-deserved break. Come on, people. Enjoy the holidays and have a Have a Happy New Year!

Jacqueline Lussier

Seriously people!! Enjoy the break team!

B-randy D

Wow, just Wow! Enjoy your break! I've found some other great podcasts that are not true crime, and this gives me the opportunity to binge some really interesting topics. Every body needs to chill out while Casey and his team has a chance to do the same. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I'll be waiting for a great 2025!

Claudia Harbourt

Anyone complaining is an idiot. This is one of the precious few true crime podcasts that isn't a pair of egoists reading directly off pages like Murderpedia while taking frequent breaks to talk about themselves. Even with the breaks you take, I have no idea how you guys pump out so many meticulously researched and delivered episodes each year, and I thank you wholeheartedly. Casefile is the GOAT of true crime podcasts.

Sarah Daniel

Enjoy your break. No complaints from this Yank!

James Johnson

Most things in Australia wind down at the end of the year and only start up again in February, and many people take leave over Christmas and the long summer holidays. I am taking leave from work, so why shouldn't your team take leave too? Enjoy your break 🙂

Renae Bartlett

Your episodes are brilliant and absolutely worth the wait. Wishing you Happy Holidays. x

Jennifer Stark

People seriously underestimate the amount of time that goes into a finished piece of creative work. Thank you for employing writers and audio artists. Thank you for putting time into researching (often brutal, horrific) material and bringing care and thoughtfulness into your telling of victims’ stories. Please have rest 💕

Fangs

Americans are extremely jealous when others are allowed to get time off for rest and recuperation. I have seen this firsthand as a teacher here, even though my breaks aren’t paid. We could easily get breaks for everyone if we worked for it.

Lizzy Smira

Every time you folks respond to this group with your characteristic poise and grace I want to be the devil on one of your shoulders and try to convince you to tell them to GFYS. That said, I’ve worked in customer service and I get it. It’s the combo of being in a semi-service industry and being your own bosses. You need to eat a lot of sh!t to get through the day. The problem is that the internet has become a place where people just spew comments and it rarely has any impact (good or bad), so we just keep on doing what we’re doing. I say this as a person who, regretfully, finds himself engaging in the exact same behaviour. In the end this comment is about as valuable to the conversations as the complaints. But, I think it can be salvaged if I just tell you that I admire your ability to strike just the right tone in your responses. Probably the byproduct of being such empathetic and talented writers.

Flem Candango

I'm using the time to listen to old episodes. It's been so long they are as good as new.

Bob Trenwith

"Mid" year??

Bob Trenwith

Have an amazing break! I know y'all are working hard. Don't worry about the haters. The rest of us have your back! If you are going to do a BTF on the last few episodes of the season, could you please post a thread now? There is no way in heck I am going to remember my questions two months from now.

Susan Rachel

This ^^

Colin M

Have the best break!!! Can’t wait to hear what ya’ll have for us next year!!!! In the meantime I’ll be listening to your case file presents!!! :) thanks for all you do!

Danielle

Y'all are amazing. Please take as much time as you need to do your work. As others have said. Quality over quantity.

David Guynes

Quality over Quantity!

J. Chips

You guys deserve the break, for production, for rest and hopefully for some family time too! The amount of work that goes into these episodes and the patreon extras is always greatly appreciated. Take it this way, YOU ARE SO GOD DAMN GOOD - That people actually are upset they have to wait for your return.

Patrick Gadoury

I have no problem with the break. Expected as per the last few years. One thought though is I would have preferred Marshall Street as the last new episode given its length. A shorter Patron episode as the last new episode seems a bit odd before a 2 month break. I also think it would be better moving forward to actually have an announcement before the last new episode so that people know the break is coming rather than an end of year message after the last episode is out. That being said, I won’t be asking for a refund as this is the only true crime podcast I’m happy to financially support. Have a great break Casefile team and looking forward to more great content in 2025!

Charles Comiskey

Why do fans always ruin something awesome? Seriously.

Megan

Please enjoy your break. You deserve it and we'll earned it. Everyone needs time to clear their minds and get ready for the next stage. Whatever that brings. And more important I hope you all get to spend time with your families. Have a blessed day.

Vikki O'Neal

Casefile Team: Thank you for all that you do to bring this podcast to everyone. The break has been going on for as long as I have been listening. It is a well deserved break and a working break at that. Those who have listened long enough know how much the team cares about the work they do. I would never ask for a refund. In fact , I would gladly pay more. It is one of the first podcasts I started listening to back in 2017/2018. To this day the quality is still one of the best out there.

Lisa Goldstein

Still dosent warrant the bitching some people are doing

Ernesto Ortiz

It's few who posted negative feedback to your message. The majority of us got your guys back!

Ernesto Ortiz

I value and apparently your content so much that I would be happy to increase the subscription pricing to cover the cost for the employment of more people to produce more episodes should you ever wish to scale ☺️. You guys absolutely are the best out there and will continue to support no matter what.

Steph walker

Casefile Team - you do a tremendous job and deliver quality content — I suggest the quality is to a large extent, unmatched in this podcast genre. You deserve a break and you have many loyal fans (including me) who will continue to support you! I would be willing to pay more for the subscription, particularly if it meant you could increase output of the ‘traditional style podcasts’ as opposed to the shorter ones or behind the scenes etc. but I am not suggesting the status quo is unsustainable. Seasons greetings and go well. Many thanks.

Jackson

Thank you for your hard work all year!! It’s my first year subscribing to the Patreon and I’ve really enjoyed listening. Enjoy your Xmas break xx

Katie Melaugh

This break is not new - you’ve done it before. Not sure what is going on with this. Have a good break. We will be here when you get back.

Lyman Green

Also bc many jobs have no healthcare insurance and too many idiots think the richest country in the world can’t afford healthcare and paid leave. Obviously it’s the land of the rich and the rest of us paying taxes so they don’t have to. Depressing really. Working hard- for what? Thankfully I have a less depressing past time- true crime.

Jennifer L

It’s hard not to go there especially after we just through the traumatizing recent events here

Jennifer L

Casey & the CaseFile team, as a listener from the beginning, I’d pay more for this wonderful podcast let alone ask for a refund. Enjoy your “break” although I know you will be busy. No other true crime podcast comes close to Casefile. Thank you & keep up the good work. Merry Christmas and all best wishes for 2025.

Lin Cott

Casefile crew you guys are amazing! I’m a long time listener and it’s embarrassing that other listeners are requesting refunds for a well deserved break that is taken every year. For the best true crime podcast I honestly am fine without arguably the smallest patreon cost for a podcast for 2 months. If you are mentally struggling with this concept perhaps the crisis numbers in the show notes will be of assistance. Enjoy your break, the rest of us appreciate all your hard work 💜

Livia Rubiolini

Casefile is awesome. I would never ask for a refund, esp with all the past amazing episodes. Keep up the good work

Katie McGhee

I love you guys and have been my go to for almost a decade wow. I really think the hate is from americans that don’t get normal time off like every other country that can read this. We (Americans) can have nice things if we just join together to duck over the 1%. Don’t know how I got here in this Patreon 🤣 love you all

Jon McCarthy

As a long time Casefile listener (2016), the mid year break is something they have always done, and it’s always been very clear that the time is used to not only give the team some holiday time, but to work on producing the high quality content we have all come to expect from Casefile. As others have said, greatness takes time, so take all the time you need! I will listen to some of my favs from the back catalogue. Looking forward to the first episodes of 2025 :) Thanks for all you do!

Jillian Zyla

If you're paying a monthly amount for the podcast I think psychologically it feels weird paying for two months and getting no new content in those months. Obviously we still enjoy relistening to the ad-free episodes but I think the issue would go away if you just spaced the gaps out so they didn't fill two entire billing cycles. (Even though it's the same in the end).

Abigail Treis

We appreciate you and support you.

Ashley Fadden

Take all the time you need! Some people are just impatient and grumpy. Your work is stellar, and well worth waiting for.

Donny Pascale

Even if you spent the entire break having an actual break (and not working hard behind the scenes) that would be completely ok! Enjoy whatever break you do get and we’ll see you next year :)

Pat J

Enjoy! See you in 2025.

Jim Constande

If these people aren't patrons, they should put their money where their mouth is for some extra content(!) Long time listener of Casefile since 2017 and your team have always taken breaks mid and end of year - I want the team to have their well earned break. If not for energy and wellbeing, simply because you deal with so much full on content. Return in Feb refreshed and reinvigorated!

Anna Burchfield

well deserved break! i’m going to use this time to re-enjoy older episodes that i have either forgotten about or some of my faves! thanks for creating such a well-done podcast for us!

Jennifer Kirker

You all earned the break. We just value your work so much. The depth and richness of your stories stands apart.

Sidney Davies

Everyone deserves a holiday break. Just ignore those complainers, they do not appreciate the work you folks do.

TammyC

Enjoy the well-earned break. You give us so much of your time and so much content - I, for one, am grateful. The culture of never taking time off or of feeling a need to apologize for doing so, must change! Will be here when you’re back.

Sara Moore

This. The break isn't the problem, it's scheduling previously released content as the last episode. If they had flipped the re-released of the Steiners and the new Thomas Perez patreon pick, i think it wouldn't have been as big a deal, (at least for me anyways, can't speak for others).

Kendo2710

Absolutely bizarre that some listeners expect a never-ending podcast factory, constantly cranking out high-quality episodes without a break—and from such a small team too. Thanks for all your hard work, CF!

Maureen

Oh my god-uh who are these people

Andrea Johnson

You all do such an incredible job and we are so grateful for your work! Please take the time you require to continue producing such an excellent show!

Karsen Holst

Love your work guys, enjoy your break! Definitely no refund required here 😊 I will patiently await your return in 2025

Carly Millar

Will be here amongst the loyal patreons when you return. I can't imagine anyone legitimately complaining for $5/mo (if so, I hope they gripe in every area of life because nothing for $5 gives as much as Casefile). Can't please everyone but such a diplomatic reply to feedback, Casey & co.

Alan

I've been subscribed since 2018, hope you all stick to whatever schedule you think is best since it results in the best true crime series!

N Stevens

Gosh. Sorry anyone “voiced disappointment” in your exceptional hard work. That stance is pretty unreasonable and what you’re doing takes time and everyone deserves time off too. Thank you for making such well researched and highly produced podcasts.

Kevin McPhillips

Not the annual apology! 😂🥲

Alex Lash

It’s obnoxious you all have to deal with this shite every year. Also, there is not a lot of mystery around when you take a break. If there isn’t a pod in the feed by Saturday midday (America time) and it’s the end of November then you all are taking a break. I’m not trying to come down on others or start a fight in the comments. We can do better than this though. Casey should not have to apologize annually and offer to refund money. Casefile is incredibly well done and I prefer they take time rather than push out an inferior product to feed the content machine.

Ben

You do a great job, everyone needs time off from work. Please take as much time as you need to recharge and thanks for all the great content.

Melodie Roth

I think you're great and do a brilliant job all year, for my few dollars a month. Keep up the good work and don't let the bastards get you down xo

Kerrin Eckert

While this post is noble and well received, I think you guys may be missing the point. I don’t think anyone thinks you shouldn’t be taking a break- the issue is more the way the break has been communicated, and the fact that subscribers don’t end off with an actual episode? We appreciate the offer for a refund, but that isn’t really a solution because it’s not like we want to cheat the team out of their keep. I guess a suggestion is: 1- communicate the break in advance, and 2- end with a new episode for subscribers.

Phumelela Appolis-Mbande

To me, Casefile is the gold standard of true crime podcasts. I'll re-listen to old eps and maybe even find something else to listen to while you're away, but it just makes me appreciate you even more when you come back in the new year. Happy Christmas all, hope you get some decent downtime!

zoe

I of course miss you over the break but it perfectly warranted that you need that time! I understand the level of hard work involved to plan, research and execute each episode. And as you mentioned in your Christmas message, I am listening to some of the other great podcasts available. Thank you team

Katie M

Everyone who complains needs to relax...If you want a quality podcast that requires work. And there will be less of them. And the team needs time to rest!!

Ashley Batton

I for one WISH the US was in sync with the times regarding time off work. We have one of the lowest life expectancies of modernized countries and much of that reason is because we are worked to death and never told to take care of ourselves.

Ashley Batton

It be the same people asking"If any of the cases have taken a toll on the team" or "How the team handles the stress" in the AMA's, and then reacting like this... And should you release more frequently, guaranteed the next complaint will be the "quality of episodes has dipped" . Take the break. Rest up. You owe it to no-one, we pay for quality content, released at your schedule, at your pace, at your high standards. We pay for a service, not a license to own your souls and well being.

Taryn-Lee Biggar

Y'all put out what is consistently the best-researched true crime podcast out there. I absolutely get my money's worth - and I hope the whole team is a relaxing holiday season!

Charlotte

I get practically 2 episode a week of exhaustively researched and exquisitely produced and written episodes of my favourite podcast of nearly 10 years with no ads for a measly $7 a month! You all deserve much more than a mini week off. The entitlement is unreal.

Vanessa

Oh lord, not this again! I'm still mortified at the note from "Jeff the American" (or whatever his name was) wagging his finger over your vacation time and saying this 'lax' work ethic is the reason Australia will never be as competitive as the USA (let me apologize for my crass Yank brethren's misguided workaholic opinions). Any break from Casefile is personally painful (lol) but it makes me appreciate the pod so much more when it returns. Considering the often gruesome content you folks deal with in great detail, you deserve every minute of this well-earned break. Enjoy and see you in the new year!

Anne Kime

Never have taken a reimbursement but perhaps giving a rough estimate for the number of episodes or calendar schedule of what the subscription covers might help since it's every year. Or some kind of countdown so people know the end is near. Hope there's some rest in there for the team. Best wishes!

Ally Jakubicka

casefile team i will defend your right to take vacations to the death 😂 thanks for always being so gracious ❤️ THE HATERS DON'T DESERVE YOU ALL

AR

You guys deserve a break. Anyone complaining needs to either give their heads a collective wobble or unsubscribe- merry Christmas and happy new year 🥳

David J Osborne

Take my money and enjoy your Christmas break, you deserve it! Looking forward to everything you will come up with in 2025 💖

Kristin Røe

Whoever bullied you guys can go suck a lollipop really! I'm sad too that the last episode was a re-run but no way I'm canceling my subscription. The content is top tier the cry babies can find something else to listen to Gees! You deserve your much needed break.

Nompilo Ngcobo

same! i think i've listened to nearly every episode at least three times over, and several even more.

AR

Y'all take as long as you need!!! Even legends need rest 🤣🫂

Jays

We love you guys. Never would leave

Natalie Stratton

Thanks team. We appreciate all that you do!

Jasmine Anahera

they offer to do this every year because every year people complain. it's frustrating!

AR

Have a wonderful break and enjoy your holiday! You produce the best true crime podcast. Well written and well presented. I’m going to listen to past episodes while I wait.

Marie Seufert

I am very happy to continue supporting what I still feel is the best researched and produced true crime podcast out there. It’s a bummer not to have any new episodes for a while, but worth it in the end. Hope you all get some good R&R in as well!

Sarah Cavanaugh

Hope you all have a wonderful and restful break. I have been a listener and Patreon member since the beginning and understand the value of a mental reset, so best wishes to your team and thanks for all you do. Looking forward to the next episode when everyone is recharged. 💕

Heather Harrelson

Casefile team knows who the real ones are, good riddance to the folk that couldn’t appreciate their quality and integrity.

Issak

Enjoy your break!! Looking forward to the new eps in 2025. Thank you for all the hard work that went into the episodes this year.

Ida Liu

Who TF bullied these people who work incredibly hard to deliver high quality entertainment to all of us for a NOMINAL fee, because they wanted a decent length break - which they’ll be working through a part of to prepare for next years episodes?! Get a bloody life, anyone who sends a message asking for a refund is a haggard, grinch faced gowl 🤮 BRING BACK SHAME

ra al

Hasn't it always been that length? I wish there didn't have to be a break but that's a fantasy, a podcast like this requires work and the episodes are worth it. You guys even do bonus episodes for patrons when there used to be weeks skipped so I don't get the complaints.

Stephanie Carrin

Keep up the good work Casey and Team. Enjoy your break and Christmas. Hear ya next year. 😁

Kath Tee

refunding yearly subscription is very noble i hope people don’t abuse it

Oisin Maher

It’s easy for people to complain when they only get hour~ long glimpses into what takes, I’m sure, several hours to research, write, narrate, and edit. You provide us solid and well-researched cases, that I know you pour your hearts into. You all deserve a good and long break without feeling guilty or bad about it! We’ll live!

Kayla

I re-listen so much I get a decent amount of value out of the ad-free feed regardless of whether new episodes drop. Enjoy your break, I’ll be here when you’re back.

Sean Craven

Seriously? You had to deal with this many people complaining that it warranted its own post? Some people are so entitled.. you guys are human and are entitled to time off. Screw anyone who says otherwise

Devil Ray Charles

Take as long as y'all need off! Y'all deserve it, the amount if work you put into these projects is wonderful!!!
