Case 306: Ina & David Steiner

In 1999, Ina and David Steiner founded an online newsletter called eCommerceBytes. The couple worked hard to establish themselves as knowledgeable, trustworthy and unbiased reporters in the e-commerce industry and were well respected by their niche community. Then in 2019, eCommerceBytes received a scathing message from a Twitter user who took issue with how Ina Steiner reported on the U.S multinational e-commerce company eBay.

This was Premium Episode #28, released in July 2024. It is not new content, it is the same episode, but as Patreon picks episodes are now going to be released on the main feed months after their initial Patreon release, we had to repost it so that all episodes can keep the same numbering on the main feed and the Patreon feed.

Kinda frustrating to see old episodes posted so frequently when I pay for premium. I don’t mind the breaks - everyone deserves a long and restful break. I just get disappointed to see episodes posted that I’ve already listened to months back. 😞

Lizzy Smira

I listened to this when it came out on Patreon and somehow I forgot all about it, WTF this case is BANANAS! Enjoy your break, Casefile! Thanks for all the great content

Megan

It is

Marie Gough

This is the last for 2024. Would have expected a big one. I cancelled my membership until February

"who mind you do the least episodes of any podcast each year ... we seem to get one a month" sorry what are you even talking about? Just at a glance Casefile puts out FAR more content than just about any other podcast I follow: Swindled - put out 27 episodes this year, that # includes bonus eps Disaster Area - put out 24 episodes this year, no bonus eps Southern Fried TC - put out 16 new eps this year, not counting repeats Gen Why - put out 45 new episodes this year Casefile - put out 51 new episodes this year, including Behind the Files and Premium episodes not yet repeated. That doesn't include producing and releasing not one, not two, not three, but FOUR new complete original Casefile Presents podcasts this year alone. Oh, and the youtube remixes of older cases! For people to act like they aren't getting anything for their financial support of this podcast is mindblowing. It just isn't reality.

This was a comment from a moderator on the same thread, posted 6 days ago: “Per Casey, the premium episode that just landed on Patreon will close out the year.”

Tessa

When they shared Marshall Street in the private group, the caption was: “The end of year break is almost upon us, but the team is closing it out with a 2+ hour bang! Case 305: Marshall Street is out now for all listeners!…” I may have misinterpreted what they meant though

Tessa

Yea this is pretty frustrating. If anyone else is looking for something to substitute the loss, I love They Walk Among Us, it gives the same vibe

Molly

Bro wtf. Case file has jumped the shark this last year for me. Used to be my fav podcast for 6+ years. Peace ✌🏿

Colin M

There also has been no announcement of when episodes are stopping this year, why aren’t we allowed to be privy to this information when we pay for it? Most patreon content creators do provide an episode a week for paying fans but we seem to get one a month that then gets released to public anyway?

Bean

Usually when you pay money for a product you expect to receive that product, it’s not like we’re helping out a charity here. We’re paying people, who mind you do the least episodes of any podcast each year, then take a 2 month brake and can’t just release a couple of pre recorded episodes, it’s not a really hard formula to keep up to but apparently they can’t do it?

Bean

Wait so we don’t get an episode as a premium subscriber but the free platforms do!? Meh not worth my money anymore

SMH CASEY

Christopher Worrel

Noooo, really?? 😪

Jess Ashlee

I agree.

Cristin Jones

Where on Facebook? I just looked at the page and don't see anything mentioning that (but could just be completely missing it)

Kim L.

I agree. I'd just like to know what was going on :)

Rachael Horwitz

You might try Sinisterhood, True Crime Campfire, or True Crime All the Time (or even Crimelines or The Trail Went Cold) if you want a lighter sort of listen while you get better! Hope you have a swift recovery!

AR

They only do this once a year and they always tell us when they'll be back. They've done it like that for years, so it seems factually inaccurate to claim they're doing it more now than they used to. Every year people act like it's a huge deal and the creators aren't entitled to take any kind of break, and i will never understand this. The main crew works full time on this job year-round; are they not allowed to have a holiday or vacation days just like the rest of us? It's just such a strange reaction to me, to want to cancel your support of a show because the creators take one break all year. If you support them, then actually support them. They're not hamsters on a wheel, and the last thing we want is for them all to burn out and stop making the show altogether.

AR

We usually get something from Casey and the team on Patreon when they take their break don't we?

Annie G

I saw on Facebook that Marshall Street was the last case for 2024 🥲

Tessa

I didn't think they had done it before?

Rachael Horwitz

They’ve been doing this a bit too much lately. I really look forward to the weekends and having a new episode to listen to…I may have to cancel my membership ☹️.

Kim Brown

Or technical difficulties maybe. I'll check back later

Rachael Horwitz

Maybe they forgot? I don’t think so, but it might have slipped their mind

Linde

Get wel soon though!

Linde

I'm in the hospital for pneumonia. I really want the lift

Natalie Stratton

Hey are you going to drop a new episode?

Natalie Stratton

Yeah so just wondered what was going on with it :)

Rachael Horwitz

Where's the new episode?

Annie G

This one was 45 min ago

Zac

There should be. Usually within 20 min another episode is posted.

Linde

Is another episode coming out? As usually when there's a re release another one has come out the same day?

Rachael Horwitz

Yeah that’s what I thought… normally they’d release an episode and then say that they’re now on break. If that’s the case, that will be disappointing

Zac

The team are usually good and do post announcements before the summer / long breaks.

Abhi Ram

Since this is not even a new episode: Yes that is it for the next 8-10 weeks

David Rogosaroff

God I hope not haha

Zac

Is this the last episode for 2024, before the summer break?

Abhi Ram
