Case 282: April Tinsley

Over the Memorial Day weekend in late March 2004, seven-year-old Emylee Higgs left her bright pink bicycle outside her home in Grabill, Indiana. When she went to retrieve it, she noticed someone had left a zip-lock plastic bag in the bike’s front basket. Inside the bag was an anonymous note written in pencil on lined yellow paper.

The Genealogy angle was fascinating, but to be honest I'm about done with the episodes about child rapes and murders. I know that they happen, but there are lots of more interesting crimes to cover that are not highly distressing and depressing.

Yes! It's so easy to add your data to GEDMatch, everyone. It's free, you just download a file from 23 and Me/Ancestry and upload it on GEDMatch. I think it took like a day to process, and that's it, you're done. And you don't get insane amounts of emails from them like 23 and Me sends. Definitely worth it if it can possibly help bring a family answers.

Jesus fucking Christ, the first 2 minutes certainly opened the door for the next hour ahead.

It’s a miracle he didn’t strike again.

If you guys still want to contribute your DNA to a database for law enforcement, GEDMatch does allow you to opt in and provides instructions how to upload results from all the major genealogy websites. I did it last year and opted in, in case my DNA ever helps.

Demi

I don't think it should be mandatory. However, I think jurisdictions should pass laws so that genealogy sites cannot close their databases to law enforcement.

Michael Brodie

Excellent narration case files team and thoughts are with the Tinsley family. This case kind of begs the question if it should be mandatory for citizens to have their dna uploaded from. Would serve a huge deterrence for crime as genealogy studies will track people down over time
