Case 281: Bibaa Henry & Nicole Smallman

In June of 2020, London social worker Bibaa Henry decided to celebrate her 46th birthday with a picnic at scenic Fryent Country Park. Celebrations continued late into the night, until Bibaa and her younger sister Nicole Smallman were the only partygoers remaining. When both failed to return home the following day, their family was quick to raise the alarm. Their search would lead to a teenager who believed he’d made a deal with the Devil…

ALL COPS ARE BASTARDS

Christopher Worrel

I was wondering what time frame this happened in compared to Everard, which everyone around the world reported on, and I'm so sorry to hear how different the two crimes were treated. My mind is also blown the kid didn't know saliva also had DNA.

Definitely .. I think we would be traumatised if we saw what’s written on some WhatsApp groups in general .. it’s like they egg each other on for the shock value

Gail

I am thinking the same thing. I’m glad they were caught and punished but the fact that they were brazen enough to send it to tons of people makes me believe that this is more common than we realize

Ashley Batton

I’m in the UK and shocked that I hadn’t heard of this case .. great work as usual Casefile .. such a sad state of affairs all round

Gail

That’s the scary thing only 1 out of that group of 40 reported it it must be rife .. at least their punishment should deter it to a certain degree (you would hope)

The police behaviour doesn't surprise me to be honest. We see it all the time where officers are seeking private information to pass to friends, ex partners etc. Defenders will talk about dark humour to deal with stresses of jobs and no doubt, horrific things are seen by the police each day, and humour does help to cope but this goes way beyond any level of that and is just down right indecent.

Man. In this era of smartphones and unsurprisingly a new way for police to be incompetent. Thanks for the way this one was told (respectfully, as always). Disrespectful conduct and one of the craziest reasons for murder that I've heard yet.

I work in IT. Every year, I have to take mandatory training on how to deal with sensitive information I may come across. Names, addresses, social security numbers, credit card information, etc. Well known that even an accidental fuck up could cost me my job. How are police officers not held to a MUCH, MUCH higher standard regarding things like crime scene photos? The fact that that dude sent pictures to a chat with over 40 fellow officers in it makes me think that he was super comfortable with that behavior and that that was not the first time he or many, if not all, of the officers in that group had done such a thing. Horrific story, but well-told by Casefile as usual.

My God those poor women. The police acted so disrespectfully. The poor family 😪

This case is so heartbreaking and i hadn't ever heard it told with this level of detail and care for the survivors. This is also the first time i can recall hearing about the police negligence from start to finish. I kept comparing the response to the Sarah Everard case as I was listening, so to hear you make that explicit comparison at the end felt like confirmation, yet again, that Casefile always tries to tell stories that go beyond dramatic narratives to push listeners to think about the larger pursuit of criminal justice, and how we can work to strengthen these systems. Thank you.
