Case 187: Peter & Joan Porco

As Peter retrieved the key and used it to re-enter the house, large droplets of blood dotted the porch steps. He left the key in the lock and let the door close behind him, though it remained slightly ajar. Peter took a few steps back towards the kitchen, but was unable to stand upright any longer. He collapsed forward, landing at the foot of the staircase.

I like both. I think they strike a really good balance with the types of cases covered.

Really enjoyed this episode. Absolutely excellent storytelling!

Yes me too, I prefer it

I retold this story basically verbatim to my partner during a long car ride, and the describing how Peter was going about his morning routine while dismissing the strange drops of blood had my partner tearing his hair out with bewilderment like I had at first listen! Such a freakish twist. Peter's body trudging through its doomed last steps, unable to call for help, was by far one of the most horrifying details I've heard in any case.

I just moved to the town in this episode in May, I had to rewind a bit to make sure that's what I heard, lol. Great episode as always.

The story of Peter waking up and doing his daily chores without realising his horrific injuries is unthinkable. The human body is so complex. I have never heard about this case and thought it was extremely well written episode. Poor Joan, the trauma she went through, but I do believe she knew her son did it but just refused to admit it out loud.

Daniela Carter

The episode structure once again was well done here. Great episode.

I’m curious if you are getting away from more mystery based cases (where a large portion of the show is dedicated to unraveling whodunnit) to cases that are more sensational. Obviously the two things overlap, but it seems like the cases you’ve been covering the last few months the perpetrator is found and identified early. I’m a big fan of listening to you peel the onion back layer by layer on mysteries that don’t have a easy answer.

This story reminded me of a similar case of Martin Tankliff. It involves family murder, numerous suspects and wrongful conviction. It's in NY. You should check it out.

Joanne Paventa

This was insanely good story telling. Has the Casefile team considered covering the Dianne Brimble story? That case haunts me in the same was Leigh Leigh’s does.

Sophia Alexandra

Incredible work, once again team. The opening was the best. *spoiler* ‐---------‐- -------‐--------- -------- I was vaguely familiar with the case, but had no idea about the murder victim's critical brain injury and how he completed his morning routine before passing away. Absolutely fascinating.

Jess Chiller

Best opening yet!

Katy Turley

My friend’s husband lived in the same dorm/fraternity as Chris and said no one doubted for a minute that he did it. Great episode!

Kate Mulligan

While I was familiar with this case, I was absolutely mesmerised by the writing / storytelling. Incredible stuff! 👏🏼

CSJ

Great episode as always. What a psycho - poor mother can’t face it.

Rosie Overell

Great episode. Thank you.

What a doozy. Unbelievable. Fact is stranger than fiction. *Spoiler ahead* Great storytelling to let us believe Chris really was surprised to hear the news and then to play that unconvincing phone call. "Uh...hello...I heard my parents are dead?"

Jennifer

One of the best episodes yet. Extremely well written. What a horrific event

Erica Colliss

BRB, need to go call my dad. 😭

Brenda Wells

Wow. That ending left me in a puddle of tears. Y’all got me again! 😭 Great episode, very well done.

Ok the absolute weirdest thing just happened. I was binge watching Forensic Files before this and I decided to stop at the beginning of an episode to see if Casefile had a new release. As soon as I started this episode I was like "hmm where have I heard these names before??" And it turned out this is the exact forensic files episode I left off on. Oooooh I can tell this is gonna be good 🥵

Cameron DelaCerna

*attempts to block movie on life*film receives lacklustre reviews 😂

I've been a patreon supporter since almost the beginning. I am particularly fond of the Australian cases, but this case and the narrative you weave, makes this one of the very best. The type of case that leaves you dismayed but satisfied. Makes you want to delve into the psychology of the perpetrator. Like the best Casefiles, this one will stay with you...

Michael Brodie

I'm so glad casefile did this case, you guys did such a good job with it!

I live in NJ and was very familiar with this story. Great to hear it the Casefile way!

Joanne Paventa

Great episode! Told in a classic Casefile fashion. Keep ‘en coming boys

J. Chips

I was familiar with this case already/knew much of the details so I had absolute CHILLS listening to the opener!! So well done, this is why Casefile is the best story telling podcast out there.

Haley

This story is one of my favorite Forensic Files episodes. So excited to listen!

Laura

glad justice was served I really believe that he did it!
