Case 121: The Freeway Phantom

It was a balmy afternoon on Sunday April 25 1971 in the United States capitol of Washington D.C. Allenteen Spinks left her apartment on Wahler Place Southeast in Congress Heights, a neighbourhood in the states southwest, to visit an aunt who lived on the other side of town. Before she left, Allenteen warned her children they were not to leave while she was gone.

Oh this was such a rough listen. Those poor girls.

Pip

Best case in a while!

Bryce Patzel

I can't pinpoint what exactly made this episode different, but it haunts me knowing that such depravity can be committed for so long and without closure. We all hope that stories like this will end in a miracle finding like the Golden State Killer, but as the years go on, most of these killers die with their secret.

Cameron DelaCerna

Excellent episode! One of the best ones in a long while. Frustrating that it’s unsolved though.

Amanda Taylor

Thanks! It looks like Patreon added the download option back. They must have heard a million complaints yesterday!

Amber

Amber, if you’re on a Computer, either right click the .mp3 link and select “download file as,” or right click on the link and select “copy,” then “paste” the link into your browser’s download manager.

Jared McGuire

There's a little downward facing arrow to the right that downloads the file. Just worked for me as far as I can tell.

Matt Riggle

I love how y'all gave the date right away. :)

Just received an email from another podcast I am a patron of and they said Patreon has removed the download option. This stinks for those of us that don't stream on our phones :(

Amber

There doesn't seem to be a way to download the episode like usual. Did Patreon change something?

Amber

I thought maybe you looked up the travel times during a particularly brutal rush hour 😉

Valerie Smith

Thank you for a well done episode! I had heard of this case before but not all of the details.

Samantha

Unsolved Casefile episodes are always my least favorite, but happy to be a supporter

Rich

Thanks for pointing that out Valerie and Samantha. Geographic error we made there. We will rectify prior to the main release. Thank you

Came here to say the same thing — DC is across the river from Virginia. I also am a former Washingtonian!

Samantha

Never heard of this case! Awesome work thank you

Amber Randall

This is my favorite podcast. 😁 I also lived in the DC area for a period and have never heard of this case. However the description of the geography confused me or perhaps I heard wrong. I think it was stated that Virginia was a 3 hour drive from DC. But Virginia borders DC so parts of Virginia are reachable within minutes from DC.

Valerie Smith

Great research, awesome work, this one is new to me

Melanie G.

Yes. Good coverage but a frustrating. :(

Nicole Price

I'm not from that area, but this case was also new to me! Have you listened yet?

Megan Brennan

Wow! I’ve lived in DC and adjoining counties my whole life and have never heard of this case!
