On June 1 1960, Sydney resident Bazil Thorne received a phone call informing that he’d just won one hundred thousand pounds in a Sydney Opera House Lottery. Bazil couldn’t believe his ears – he’d never won anything of significance before.
As news of Bazil’s big win was broadcast throughout the city, he thought his family’s life was about to change for the better. He was wrong.
