Weekly progress report #43

Sexy girls love fast cars.

Hello. Time for another progress report. Feels like we had the previous one just yesterday… Anyway, I'm still working on the final chapter of v0.10, and the job goes forward in a nice pace. That's pretty much all there is to it. And I'm very close to finishing the last renders of it (I only have two scenes left, and probably about 10–12 singular pictures to shove here and there). Which brings me to my question: what would you rather do: spend all that free time on making another scene for v0.10, or remaking some of the old shitty ones? It's not as clear cut as you might think, because with the new pictures I'll have to write these scenes as well, while with the older ones it's just pure rendering (but I might add something, if I feel like it).

That's kinda what I will start slowly doing from now on. Remaking the entire first chapter of the game. Because, let's be honest, it's awful. Blake goes from his old self to a sissy in about five minutes. It didn't feel like this back in the day, but when I just started Shattered, I had no experience with Daz3d and RenPy whatsoever. So, yeah, I spent three months on that, and naturally I had to show Blake as a girl in this first chapter. It blows my mind that someone actually liked it. I can do better. So, from now on I'll be slowly changing it. Adding and removing some stuff, polishing it, making it look and feel really good. But, of course, it shouldn't hurt the further development, and it won't. My priorities are straight.

That's about it. If we're speaking about renders, the last chapter of v0.10 has about 120 now, and I have ~30–35 more planned. I cheated with some scenes to finish them faster, and you'll see how, but it didn't hurt them aesthetically. In fact, it made them even better in a way. As for the writing, it's about half done. Maybe slightly less than half. But I'll speed up the next week.

So, that's kinda it. Thank you very much, and have a nice day!

As someone who just started playing this week, so has a pretty fresh eye on how it goes, the pacing of the beginning (at least the route I took) was fine. Like, maybe it's just because I was doing a straight sub route so my first major scene was subbing for Iris but honestly I don't know how much more setup it really needed? I can see value in spending more time in the mansion and spending more time getting to know everyone before Act 5 happens (I had some weird dissonance with Blake having very strong feelings about the rest of the staff who my run involved almost no interaction with for example) but otherwise: is how quickly Blake falls into the role realistic? maybe not. Is it well paced for the reader to get past the setup and into the type of story this is meant to be? I think so.

I think a remake of the older content would be a better idea, and would give us old-timers (that have been around with you for a while) a chance to go back and start another new game. (I have 3 of them xD) I absolutely love when VN's remake their content. Shut up and Dance's remake is awesome, and if you haven't checked out Alison: Fall of the Apple by OnemanVN, the remade scenes are amazing and did a much better job explaining the story. I know you'll do us proud, Yeda, you always do.

On the question, it really depends on how close I am to finishing at least the main story, if I am close then I would probably think that I would have more time to revise after finishing the current version. If I was still a ways off the end, then if it really bothered me, I would go ahead and revise it.
