It' really good that you and your girlfriend already know what you want from a game and wish to be well-informed before pledging. I strongly suggest,that you play the free public demo of HoM to get the taste of it. Regarding characters: what I can tell you,is that none of the girls will jump on the protagonist because he's got a penis.:)Loyalty scenarios are planned for every romance interest starting v004-v005 game updates. There will be a motivation for every romance.:)

My girlfriends quite tired (and I can't help but agree) that there's a few too many simplistic male power fantasy games that have girls who only character traits are that they're hot and obsessed with the MC with some one note personality. Wondering if more effort will be put in to having actually interesting female characters in the game with their own unique personalities/likes/dislike/fetishes/fears etc instead of everything revolving around the MC's preferences.
