Making Better Videos - December Update

mmmm

Calum Shaw

Ok I love this look behind the scenes into the concerns you have for making content. I wish people could understand how difficult it is!

Bj

"Long time viewer, first time Patreon user" and all that. I really like the delivery you use in your videos, you're not as intense as MyMechanics or RRC (which both do amazing work) yet your work ethic and quality or work is on par with them, but it's your sense of humour which really helps you stand out. Have to say though that as a rider of Triumph motorcycles for more years than I care to count, I'm buzzing that you're thinking of using the Speed Triple as the skeleton for your electric bike, if if the single sided swing arm will add extra weight

Wavey

buddy, you could literally name the videos "poppy stinky pt95" and i'd binge them all anyways. love your content

Lucas Vigorena

I can't believe that gas tank started leaking again after everything you've done for it. So ungrateful...

Communidad

I would love a second channel where you just upload fiero like videos, less edited and more technical stuff happening!

Andreas M

I think this new approach to uploads is gonna work out great for you - keeping the channel fresh and non-formulaic, especially now that you have a place of your own and lots of potential projects to take up your time.

Brandon Sawyer

As long as you’re still making videos, I’ll still be here!

Ethan

I second pretty much all the feelings everyone else mentioned--I'm psyched for you videos however you want and need to do them. I'd like to specifically call out that I'm totally fine with sponsors, even completely unrelated ones. I've been around YouTube enough to know how *much* some sponsorships can bring in (and more importantly, how little normal videos make). I know my feelings are not shared by everyone, but I want you to be able to live a good life first and if we can get some cool videos out of it, listening to a few minutes of ad reads is ultimately a small price to pay.

Nubbles

I’m looking forward to what the new year and you bring to 2024. Good luck, I’ll be here watching. And I’ll visit YouTube to feed the algorithm …

Papa Bogey

It's great to hear that the time you've put into thinking about marketing and viewer experience has paid off! Seeing those videos performing so well after implementing those changes must've felt really good. Finding the "story" for a video and going from prologue to epilogue seems like it really would make a video feel more-satisfyingly consumable. It would still allow long, multi-part projects, while making sure that each video has an achievable goal. I am sure that for some tasks, this could get tricky to chop up. I believe in you 😁. This reminds me of a belief that's fairly-broadly held in software engineering: each unit of work should be a functioning component that can be tested. Don't break down tasks into things that are inert -- into just building blocks. Make sure that whatever you build, it can be interacted with in some way. Maybe it's just the front-end component of something that will eventually have a back end; but, if it is, make sure it's possible to bring it up and interact with it, just stub out the client/server communication. If it's a back-end component, make sure it's functional, even if it's headless; make sure it has a suite of unit tests. Anyway, I love these meta videos and how they are both conversational and clear. Your dedication to understanding what you're talking about always comes through, even when you don't have a script. Looking forward to what's to come! 🙌

Chris Harwood

I first started watching you rebuild motorcycles. You didn't disappoint when you started the fiero project. I wish i could say, "just do whatever, it'll be fine" but i understand the need to sustain yourself creatively and financially. Just like the rest have said, we're gonna stick around no matter what because we love what you've done with it all. Don't be too hard on yourself, but by all means, push the boundaries and surprise us all!

Jerry Linton Jr

Haha sweet!

Mike Bernstein

It is indeed! It’s full color too 😏

Ronald Finger

I’ve actually thought about it a lot recently and, if I’m being honest, there is a good chance it won’t happen. It’s much lower on the priority list than all the other projects I have and there’s so many other things that excite me! I think the VF500F is a neat bike, but that’s as far as my interest in it goes, so I can see it being something that I’ll easily get burnt out on. If I can find someway to make it interesting for me, then of course I’ll do it though!

Ronald Finger

I am still waiting on the Honda Interceptor rebuild but starting to think that will never happen. I actually enjoy your garage rebuild videos, for comic relief if no other reason. I watch a few different channels that do salvage title rebuilds and they seem to do quite well.

Richard Farmer

Random question but is that a crt in a clear plastic case in the background when your talking about the leaking bike gas tank.

Mike Bernstein

Ronnie just do what you feel is right! I'll be watching each video that you just release!

Mike Bernstein

Wow, very interesting Steve

David Block

It's all about you in my opinion. What makes your videos good it's you. It doesn't matter what you're doing, I know I'll watch whatever you post. But, I also get that you need to get as much views as possible.

Luis Garcia

I understand what you are saying...but I believe the Patreon supporters all are here for your stories and jokes.

Matt

Even if you have elevation issued, you should be able to sister the bad studs and even the bottom sill over time with the rental of a shoring post if needed. Than you can really take your time and absorb the cost so it doesn't hurt....................Just go from worst condition studs to best around the room. If they are all sistered on the same side of the boards you can remove the old bad ones, but it isn't really necessary. shoring post and 4X4 are only needed to support the roof if you're going to replace the bottom plate in an area. In that case, cut the bottom of the old studs, rip the plate out/cut any concrete lags flat, and put the new plate in. Set new redheads through the new plate and toenail the old studs back in (and add more sister studs as needed). It's not so bad and a couple of hours per weekend when you have time.

Steve Bausman

With how I want to write/present my videos now, there was nowhere near enough work done to the Interceptor or Jankbot to warrant a video on either, but the Mustang is still a possibility! The only issue is that my brother sold it before we really got everything done the way we wanted to, so I'm not sure how "complete story" it would feel, especially considering that more videos on it can't happen 😬

Ronald Finger

Let’s call the videos “My calico girl visits” probably not safe during actual car repair (like welding!) but it’s nice to see her curious little self.

Amy Cantrell

Why not release some of the videos recorded before the move? The Honda Interceptor, the Mustang twin-turbo fit, the Jankbot redesign. I don't think I'm alone in being curious about all of those projects.

Great Joe

I think your realization that each episode needs to be a complete story in and of itself is brilliant. Even modern 'long arc' television series have an A plot for each episode along with a B and sometimes C plots. Any of the plots might move the long arc, but the other plots will move the characters. Your scene-creating and long-arc skills are excellent. I expect that you'll master the episodic story as you experiment. I'm looking forward to it!

Shawn Stanford

listen: you're a national treasure. i'm a car guy, but i don't specifically care about fieros, old Zs, motorcycles, or garages. i love your channel because the vibe hits exactly correct. you market and edit them however you need to, and i will continue enjoying them more than any other youtuber's by a sturdy margin.

Quin Chantry

I agree with the sentiment of most of us here. I’m here for your story telling and humor. I have no interest in restoring a vehicle but love watching the process. I never wish ill will on anyone however, I enjoy your on going battle with fuel tanks. It’s the arch nemesis the you need to move the story forward.

Bryan Downs

For me Ronnie, i found u thru the fiero series, but i love ur content no matter what so it makes very little difference to me however you do it, as long as ur doing it. Ur story telling is what keeps me around and supporting. Guess I'm just trying to say do whatever works and whatever makes you happy, either way ill be watching and enjoying

Stuart Kay

i, too, am a Kerbal Space Program content enjoyer

wookiee_goldberg

Projects will still be start to finish and in detail! That aspect isn’t changing at all

Ronald Finger

Personally Ron, I liked the series approach to your Fiero project, that's how I found your channel, and I stayed because of your entertaining approach to story telling. I guess I'm in the minority, I like to see projects start to finish, and in detail. Do what you have to do my friend, I hope it all works out for you... Just don't loose your sense of humor because you make me laugh!!! (Why Did I Say That) lol

Kevin

I've enjoyed All of your videos since I found your account way back in fiero part two. I can see why people see you as just the fiero guy but that's 100% on them because you made it clear many times that's not all you were and I have enjoyed all of it. I'm here for the long haul. I'll watch whatever content you put out because I enjoy it.

Gary kromer jr

Catch'ya on the floppy flop.

Jonathon Alsop

Ronnie - I think most of the Patreons will agree that when choosing to watch your work, the project is secondary. You are the main drawing card. You have charisma, and it comes through in your humor, creativity, and work ethic. Don't overthink this. You got to where you are by being genuine, and that always wins.

Steve Cook

Nice to see gizmo getting some more screen time 🐈‍⬛ Us patreons will enjoy whatever content you put out, so doing whatever you can to build your viewer base is a wise choice 👍

David Carson

Thanks for the reply! I appreciate it really. Almost bought a 280 to start fixing it in parallel. Sleeping on stuff is a good idea 😀

Claudiu Carlogea

I think around when it starts to warm up or right before would be a great opportunity to release videos on any of your bike projects really since that’s when riding peaks and people would like to know more. Specifically I’d LOVE to see videos on the VF700? 750?

Cage Franklin

The eternal sponsor 😂

Josh and Justina

Yeah, my parents 😅 They got my these for Christmas last year but I’m just now putting them together

Ronald Finger

the car's door frame being *just* off alignment from the peg board was pretty distracting don't feel bad for running a one man show, it's a learning process. there is no definitive guide for how to youtube

Louis Weber

I love you and all your content. I fell in love with the Fiero series. Excited for whatever you do!

Keith A. Drewnoski

Did you get a tool box sponsor?

Josh and Justina

It’ll absolutely be restored to the same level and I’ll be sharing the entire process. I’ll still be getting into all the nitty gritty details of what goes into restoring a car, but all that’s changing is how I approach the storytelling aspect.

Ronald Finger

Oh Ronald, the restoration series were amazing, you were among the very few out there documenting properly a full restoration. There are a million channels that are guys starting or patching up cheap dead cars. I would love at least to hear that the 280 will be restored as the Fiero was and we'll be able to see it.

Claudiu Carlogea

I'll still watch whatever the project is. You're a talented filmmaker and storyteller. And you're hilarious. You need to add a "Ronnie Finger rebuilt his garage and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" tier for your Patreon. :-D

Tom Wright

Why did you say that? Because you are a man between time. You can't delve deeply into the past without picking up burdocks appropriate to the age.

Kyle

Easier, yes… Possible, no! The only way I’ve been able to afford to do any of the work is from doing it in stages and making videos on the process! Demolishing the building, pouring a new foundation, reframing everything, and installing a new roof would just add up to be way more money than what I’ll have spent even after I rebuild the remaining walls. A brand new shop would be ideal, but just not in the budget :)

Ronald Finger

martincitopants mentioned 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺 also would it not have been easier to just build a new shed?
