Major Garage Change! - New Front Wall

The entire front wall was torn down and rebuilt in order to convert the two 8' garage doors into one 16' garage door. This has honestly been the most labor intensive garage/workshop episode yet, but I'm happy to say that this is now better built than it ever was and, more importantly, better suited to my needs.
Obviously there's still more work to be done (like actually installing a garage door), but this is a huge milestone! I'm very excited for the rest of the renovation, as well as what all shenanigans I'm going to get up to in here :)

That's great to hear that you're good with a 200 amp sub panel already in place! I'd say for sure you'd want to aim for between 75-100 amps for the garage run once you get around to that. Nice work on the new door design choice, you'll be glad you went with the single-wide door.

2023-10-12 21:17:53 +0000 UTCWe actually don’t have to re-wrire the whole house, but instead just upgrade our home’s main panel to one rated for 200 amp service, which we actually already did! There’s now more than enough power to feed the garage, but the only thing left is to run a new dedicated circuit underground. :)

From the lights to the inside wall to the big support beam and its braces, everything you do is right there in front of you. I can't help but think that seeing all these big results is gonna help keep your momentum going on the car/bike projects as well.

2023-10-05 17:18:17 +0000 UTCI was planning on talking about it in the video, but the biggest advantage is the space created by the wall between the doors. You inherently have more room between two parked cars, making opening the doors and getting in/out easier. Not a concern for me though since I won’t ever be parking two cars in here!

2023-10-05 17:06:47 +0000 UTCMain benefit is climate control. You lose (slightly) less heat opening one small door to get out the snowblower/car than you would opening the entire side of the garage.
