Thumbnails: An Exploration
Added 2020-03-13 03:57:04 +0000 UTCMost people have two.
But as far as YouTube video thumbnails go, most videos have one. Unless you're like me and have changed them after uploading on a few occasions.
I thought I would do something a little more fun for Part 8! In the past, I've just taken a screenshot from somewhere in the video or a photo of the car at some point in the process and used that (with some touch-ups of course).
Now, it's time to embrace the clickbait (to an extent). I wanted to do something more eye-catching than a nice photo of an eyesore of a car. Since this episode is largely about work on the car's body panels, I wanted to emphasize that.

After Charles and I were finished holding up all of the panels, I went into Photoshop and isolated all of the parts along with their shadows!

With them overlaid onto the base image of the car, a little cropping action, and some clone stamp tool usage, you get something like this.

After a final round of touch-ups, color grading, and graphic overlaying, here's the final product!

Honestly I might go back and tweak some colors some more, but this is more or less the final product. I hope this was entertaining as well as educational! Going forward, would you guys be interested in seeing the process in either real time or edited? I've never really done a tutorial or narrated anything in real-time before. That might be fun.
Either way, editing for Part 8 is going swimmingly, and is on course to be released to the world on Saturday. If everything goes well tomorrow, I'll be sure to release it early for you guys :)
Stay sweet,
