Disaster Strikes!
Added 2020-03-08 19:50:24 +0000 UTCThere have now been two unforeseen roadblocks in this next episode of the Fiero series. You probably have seen the news I shared on Instagram about the frame damage. That is all taken care of now (more or less), but another huge one that has set me back about three days now is the the roof shattering into four pieces!

As I said in Episode 1, the Fiero's exterior panels are all completely removable! It's one big go cart under all that plastic. I said that every panel can be removed with just a few nuts and bolts, but apparently there's a bit of adhesive in the mix too. There's a line of butyl tape that runs around the perimeter of the front glass. It is a real bitch to deal with. Even after heating the panels to loosen the adhesive's grip, it still was too much. The force needed to pull the A-Pillars up and off the adhesive was more than the force required to rip them off the rest of the roof panel

Fortunately, I was able to superglue everything back together and reinforce the connection with a few layers of foil tape on the outside. Some painter's tape was strung up to prevent the panel from flexing apart while upside down.

The surfaces were all prepped and fiberglass was added in all of the joints.

I just now finished up glassing in the lower joints, but once that is cured, I can flip the whole thing upside down and add one final layer on the outside to make sure everything is good and secure.
I was really hoping to get this video done before the end of February, but setbacks like these make it really difficult to stick to predetermined timelines. There's still a whole other can of worms to work out with the roof panel that is completely unrelated to me breaking them, and hopefully that'll be sorted out if not later today, tomorrow.
Thanks for tuning in! Hopefully I'll finish filming everything for this episode Monday/Tuesday so that I can spend the next few days narrating and editing. I want you guys to be able to watch the video this weekend!
