White Rabbit Version 0.1

Dear Insane Children,
FINALLY! We received the first physical sample of a plush based on our drawing. To refresh your memories, here's (one of) the concept images we were working with...

We have two other groups working on samples right now and should take delivery of those within 10~15 days. The recent holidays really messed with this process!
A couple of thoughts...
First off, it's always a strange feeling to hold in your hands a physical creation based on an illustration. Coming from games, I'm still not used to watching something digital (art) transform into something physical - coins, cards, books, and toys... but holding this little guy is a great feeling. No wonder Alice didn't want to let him go!
The thing that feels most out of place is his nose. It's molded plastic and doesn't fit with the era from which this toy would originate. My expectation was that the nose would be made up from stitching - so we'll have to communicate that next time.
Proportions, weight, and size are all good. You'll love holding this little guy!
We need to think about how clean he is... is that alright? If not, how do we pre-grunge them? I kinda like it clean - and then let people decide how grungy to make him based on their intended use.
Lulu is *insane* about him and wants to chew him. Perhaps we could just dump box-loads into the yard and let Lulu run around and maul them into the dirt for a while. That would probably achieve the required effect.
Let me know what you think in the comments below!
We'll do a live review during tomorrow's live stream.
LIVE STREAM tomorrow. CHRIS VRENNA will join us. DON'T MISS IT!

And be sure to leave your QUESTIONS for Chris in the comments below!

I think this is just a test sample. It looks good.
But that nose looks like a dog's nose.
This skin may be too white. I was wondering how you could make it old effect. It might be better to choose a light grey fabric.
Oh no...Why does it look more and more like a dog?

I agree, a smaller chest with a round belly, longer ears, the legs could be a bit longer with a thread nose, I would also prefer the white coat to be slightly dirty and dingy !
2018-10-26 21:25:30 +0000 UTC
In my opinion the plush is a bit to "fat". I would say the chest should be smaller.

I was really hoping it would have the adorable coat that it had from American Mcgee's alice. It was so cute and it's floppy ears too! This one is cute too though, I know you guys will work out the kinks!
2018-10-26 05:04:13 +0000 UTC
I love sweatshirt. I commanded 3 of them. I hope I will receive the white rabbit. he is so cute.
2018-10-26 04:38:42 +0000 UTC
Leather would make period sense. However, pleather, I'm sure, would serve the purposes just fine, if needed.
2018-10-25 22:09:30 +0000 UTC
As for the cleanliness of the bunny, my daughter (middle name is Alice) also has a white rabbit that she takes with her everywhere. We didn't give her the bunny; it was a gift from a family member. Let me tell you that white rabbits, in the hands of children, and after several washings, DO NOT stay WHITE-white for long. They start to kind of look grayish white or a yellowish white or any color that is an off-white. It would feel more personal to let us give them grime, in our own way. And please, make it washable. Hand-washing or dab-washing can be a pain, after a while.

I'm pro stitching myself (like that Steiff bear in Pawn Stars) but a few patrons suggested leather.

While I see where you are coming from, a leather nose would probably be period accurate for this guy. That being said, didn't American say they were wanting to have the nose just made out of stitching?

ASSHAT SUGGESTION: Please, no leather nose and no animal subproduct in the making of this guy. Recently, Square Enix made leather Moogle plushies and killing animals to make toys feels so completely contradictive.

YES! The Gund toys are super soft, too. That fabric would be perfect. And maybe just hit it with an airbrush at the factory to give it the dirty look.

I agree with a lot of the comments. I think if the arms and legs were sewn on individually that would help with a floppy movement feel. Using fabric that is maybe off white could give it a bit more of a used look, what is used is a little bright and clean. Definitely the plastic nose looks off and too modern would go with stitching, faux suede or faux leather. I have a Steiff dog and it has a tiny glass bead like nose with no nose detail. I think something along that line could work too. It is difficult to take an incredible sketch and translate it into something more tangible and everyone will have comments.
2018-10-25 04:03:12 +0000 UTC
I would love to see it as an anime series or movie!
2018-10-25 00:50:07 +0000 UTC
I'm not very fond of the plush proportions. I feel the head and tummy areas would look more appealing if they were thinner. I've pictured what this bun would look like as a real plush numerous times. I thought of being able to pose it. Having buttons attach the legs and arms to the body so we could move the arms and legs. I very much prefer the grunge look.
2018-10-25 00:48:55 +0000 UTC
I have a couple of thoughts on this one. Overall, I love it. But I do agree that the nose should be stitched/embroidered instead of plastic.
Also, I feel like the torso is a little too wide. I was expecting it to be a little more long and narrow. That’s not really a game breaker, but I find it bothersome enough to point out.

This Rabbit is funny :) It is hard to judge from the image but I hope it looks better as a physical item. The plastic nose is a no-no; this rabbit is considered to be a Victorian era toy. As I could see it is also out of proportion.
2018-10-24 19:25:36 +0000 UTC
The ears could be longer. I would see the button bigger and in wood or brown. I find it stiff and too clean. A thick gray fur could make it dirtier.
2018-10-24 19:23:18 +0000 UTC
SUGGESTION: I agree with you when you say the nose looks off but something about the body and legs seem off to me, the legs look like maybe they need to be a little thicker in some areas and the body shape of the concept art seems more pear shaped as where the physical doll seems a bit more boxy. I also think the button eye should be a little bit larger.
QUESTION: Once you are done with the Alice games do you think you would ever turn them into a book series or graphic novels?

wild to see the rabbit in the 'flesh'! great start but think it needs work... he kind of looks more like a dog than a rabbit.. perhaps due to the shape of his head and ears. seems a bit stiff overall, too. the dingy look may be well-achieved with a darker fabric, something in-between white, light / medium gray.
2018-10-24 17:19:47 +0000 UTC
I've taken the concept art and the rabbit picture and made a photoshop replica!
2018-10-24 17:14:35 +0000 UTC
You should look at the Velveteen rabbit vintage toys or the Walking Dead velvet rabbit. A good fabric is cream velvet. Also, a good image for how it might look is Gund’s thistle rabbit https://gund.com/products/thistle-bunny-cream-13?utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=googlepla&variant=47768356499&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsMDeBRDMARIsAKrOP7HQ-XxT7er4FExVk3mAVcx8TaQvRSTfa-TaYGUjZgNqKhrU1EAbZc0aArpnEALw_wcB

Definitely agree with some of the other comments. Both the head and the body should be more narrow. Too stiff looking, overall. Good call on the nose, though. A stitched nose would be ideal but even a plastic rabbit nose would be better. That is a plastic dog nose, for sure.
2018-10-24 16:56:35 +0000 UTC
I'd honestly say this should be made in a more traditional pattern with the arms attached as more of a seperate peice, also the head Shaoe and eyes seem really off
2018-10-24 16:52:24 +0000 UTC
I agree I'd love to see it be more of a gray color, and bigger button for the eye. Maybe a little colored stitching around the mouth and belly. I love the shape as is.

2018-10-24 16:35:39 +0000 UTC
I love the idea of the owning the sketched rabbit! With the sample, maybe a gray fur instead of white, and a bigger oval shape button for the eye? I have no idea how possible that is for a factory to make but just my thoughts. He looks a bit too healthy. But I want him in his final form no matter what!

2018-10-24 16:18:15 +0000 UTC
I'd see it with a bigger button for the eye ( and made of wood instead of plastic ). All in all, it's a nicer "first draft" than the orange one! Oh, and I'll want 3 of them! ( 2 for the children and 1 for myself ). Haha and it reminds me I tried to create Alice's cuddly bunny back in the days ( like 10+ years ago ). I never could have imagined we would be discussing a 3rd game by now, with actual REAL white rabbits on the way!
2018-10-24 15:57:12 +0000 UTC
The color should be greyish. As far as I can see on the concept art it'd best fit for the bunny to have semi-long greyish hairs, which also would add-up to the overall look of the bunny in my opinion. If not that then perhaps adding stiches in dark grey, black or brown will do the trick and make it look like it's been through a lot! Adding like brownish or darker greyish stains to the bunny will also add-up to the old rusty look if we want to be precise. I think that overall the shape is not right! The head is perfect but it must be smaller! I think they've gotten the legs and arms amazingly well. The torso is one of the parts that worries me the most. I used to have an old soviet inspired rabbit that had the shape of the body of the concept art rabbit, but I gave it away last year, and I can't show a picture of it! It's torso was long and shaped exactly like this one! If I sum things up, I love the shape and elements of the head, arms and legs. The torso must be changed, the head must get smaller!
2018-10-24 15:53:48 +0000 UTC
I don't know if it will be received well if I actually critique the bunny! It's not gonna be a pretty sight! :D I have to admit they've done a great job, but it's far from what the precise Alice's bunny from the picture actually is.
2018-10-24 15:44:13 +0000 UTC
1. Agree. Nose should be thread. 2. I think the red paws and ears are too bold. A dusky pink or salmon would look better. 3. Too stiff. Needs to be floppy. 4. White fur should be a little more plush. 5. The button looks brown to me in Madness and a bit bigger, I suppose the button could have been replaced at some point though. 6. The face should be narrower. 7. Ears longer and more narrow. 8. Dark stitching dor the mouth. 9. How about a cream or off white plush instead of white. That would make it look a bit dirtier without having to actually make it dirty. Was such a white white available in that era? 10. I feel like all of the seams should look more defined. It doesnt look vintage enough.
2018-10-24 15:07:59 +0000 UTC
1. I think it should look dirtier. Look up images of white grey tipped sheepskin. If they could make it with that or a faux version, I think that would do it! 2. The head should be more narrow and the eyes lower on the head. 2. I like that the repaired eye is a different color stitching, like red, because she repaired it the best she could with what she could find. 3. The body is too round. It should be narrow at the neck. 4. The ears should be a tad longer. 5. I agree that the nose should be thread or a thin yarn. Good job on the first prototype. Hope my feedback helps!
2018-10-24 14:52:54 +0000 UTC
Looking good for a prototype. The stitching down the face where the eye is missing kind of looks "off". Also he looks a bit too stiff. I think his arms and legs should be more floppy to where he doesn't naturally sit up. They should hang down when you hold him like in all of the pictures of Alice holding him.

2018-10-24 14:25:43 +0000 UTC
I think it is a great start but I would suggest some refinements. Mostly it looks too plump. I think the body is too fat and should be leaner and maybe pear shaped to taper towards the neck. The head should be oval and less round to give it a more bunny appearance and not so big. I agree that a stitched nose is far better. The button eye is too small, but if you thinned the head it might look better proportioned. As to getting them a bit dirty, maybe let lulu lose into a box of them and see what happens, although she might just be comfy and take a nap.
2018-10-24 14:08:53 +0000 UTC
I agree that the nose seems odd, but I also wonder if they could use the same red thread they used for the eye socket to follow the seams of the belly, mouth and such as the dark lines of the seams in the picture. I feel like (other than the grunge) that’s what makes it look so different from the picture. That and a bigger button for the eye.
2018-10-24 14:03:10 +0000 UTC
I think the button eye needs to look older and more beat up. I also agree that it's too clean, perhaps the material can be damaged (burned, torn, stained) before assembly. This will give ever rabbit 🐰 it's own unique look
2018-10-24 14:00:18 +0000 UTC
looks great but nose definitely is out of place and feel like it sticks out like a sore thumb
2018-10-24 13:59:03 +0000 UTC
I think he looks cute but i agree the nose is out of place as is the body shape. Usually in that era the bodies were a bit longer instead of short and fat. I do think it would look better Grundy but I like the idea of the people getting to grundge it themselves. Over all I love it tho and it is a good first draft :)
2018-10-24 13:38:37 +0000 UTC
I think it looks to "nice". When i think of the rabbit its a loved toy a child holds often. Dirty and off color is key. this one is too filled with stuffing and i agree on the nose it just doesn't look like the time you are trying to capture. the Button eye should be rustic looking not just straight button black also. Minor changes in appearance and it will be fab! I love the concept and cant wait to see other ideas come along based on our feedback! :) thank you!
2018-10-24 13:37:16 +0000 UTC
1st off the ears should be ever so slightly longer. The way they are now look too short and cropped like a floppy eared dog and not long bunny ears.
2nd I do agree about the nose. Using the plastic nose for sure looks more dog or teddy bear like. The best bet is to stitch it. Leather would be cool however depending it might look to shiny and overall cost you more out of pocket.
3rd is the body. Look closely at the neckline of the photo. I dont think you have the plush overstuffed i believe you made the body a bit to big in general before the stuffing.
4th and finally I'd like to point out the stitching. You have everything in the correct sense and placement but a bit lacking. The mouth muzzle needs more defined look and must be outlined more. The eye outline also needs to be thicker. For the belly and body portion i feel you can keep the plush clean BUT go over the stitches again with an off white thread. A greyed or yellowing thread may help give it the subtle dirtiness without actually staining or grunging the fabric itself. On the red stitching parts I suggest a thicker thread maybe even a thick yarn based thread to really make it thick and defined.
Great start though overall. Just minor adjustments. Hope my long winded response helps!
2018-10-24 13:19:44 +0000 UTC
SUGGESTIONS:
1. Smaller head
2. Soft/stitched nose
3. Thinner torso
4. Less stiff/droopy limbs
5. "dirtier" appearance
6. Darker stitching around mouth
2018-10-24 13:09:57 +0000 UTC
Not a fan :( He more resembles a dog with how plump the head is and the plastic nose. I feel like the head should be much slimmer, no puffy cheeks to it, Slimmer body, and better stitch details. As others have said, he just looks really cheap, like something out of a crane machine or a fair prize. He may need a change in the material being used as well. Just completely displeased with him as a whole.
Christine Phillips
2018-10-24 12:45:23 +0000 UTC
The button for the eye is too modern and so is the nose and the stitching. The whole overall shape makes it look like a dog instead of a bunny. It needs a longer snout and leaner cheeks. Also it’s way to white.
2018-10-24 12:32:05 +0000 UTC
The plastic nose makes it look more like a dog than a rabbit. Also maybe make the ears a little longer?
I think it needs to be more ratty rather than clean.
Possible outfits? Mad hatter/alice/queen/cat and of course the rabbit with his pocket watch? Would probably cost too much and wouldnt be a viable option but thought it worth a shout.
2018-10-24 12:29:45 +0000 UTC
I suggested awhile ago that you release a plush and I'm so excited to see it happening!!@
2018-10-24 12:07:54 +0000 UTC
He is so cute!!!! I must have him...
2018-10-24 12:07:25 +0000 UTC
[Suggestions]
For the nose you could go for a patch of leather.
And I'd suggest to rethink the plastic eye button, one thats bigger and made of wood, and perhaps a thicker stitch pattern. This also counts for the seem stitches. Back in the day these toys were made my hand, so the stitching was uneven and thicker, they'd repeat the stitches a few time to make sure it was secure. These days a machine works nearly flawless.
The red colour looks spot on, the white feels too new.
The shape looks very authentic, and is definitely a winner. Also the missing eye pattern patch looks endearing and spot on.
2018-10-24 11:41:28 +0000 UTC
I think either a stitched nose or piece of leather will look better than a plastic nose. The plastic nose just looks odd.
2018-10-24 11:40:43 +0000 UTC
The mouth and the stitching on the belly needs to be a darker color. It doesn't pop and is almost unnoticeable..
The plush is also a bit too plump. I think the thinness of the illustration is important. Plump gives it more of a comfortable feel whereas the thinness in the illustration gives it a feel that something isn't quite right ...
Others have mentioned the nose, but I don't think a straight stitched nose is quite right. I think, given the time period, either a piece of thick dark cloth, or a patch of leather is the way to go.
J
2018-10-24 11:06:02 +0000 UTC
I would think he needs to be more floppy instead of tightly onverstuffed. His missing eye stitching needs to be lower.
2018-10-24 10:48:21 +0000 UTC
In my opinion, its head's shape reminds me more of a dog
2018-10-24 10:26:52 +0000 UTC
I like the idea of leaving it to us to grunge to our own extents. But I think a lot will also not want to get him dirty or risk ruining it.
In general he looks like a cheap toy you'd find at a fair to win. Something you never want to touch cause it feels like it's stuffed with styrofoam. That nose looks like a dog nose and far too hard also seems quiet large. His head looks out of place all together. Maybe that it's all too plump and seems way to stiff.
Looking forward to the other 2 creations.
2018-10-24 10:21:46 +0000 UTC
Looks good overall but the nose should be redone using different material like u said, stitching. And the eye button needs to have bigger cross instead of the small generic one. Proportions are not quite exact based on illustration but thats alright. As for the nose, it needs to be flatter with light 3D pop out. The plus point is i love the colors and the clean look. The weathering can be optional.
2018-10-24 10:20:28 +0000 UTC
i think the back legs are too small, the button needs to be bigger (and more off to the left, or his right), the other eye (stitching) needs to be a lot lower (and obviously better stitched), in line with the button eye. the nose i think is just not the right nose - a flatter and smaller nose could work? lastly, i think the head is a bit too wide. hope this helps!
2018-10-24 10:19:59 +0000 UTC
Maybe a little les stuffing, particularly in the limbs and torso, to make him floppier? And perhaps a two toned plush/fur with a creamy base and greyish tips? Or just a soft creamy grey shade all over to make him look older?
(Also it might just be the photo on mobile but his head looks enormous??)
2018-10-24 10:03:12 +0000 UTC
Nose is just horrid but you guys know that. Feedback - Rabbits have big back feet and he doesn't, for me he just isn't a rabbit at all and also should be floppier, he needs less stuffing to give him a well used/hugged and loved toy companion
2018-10-24 09:53:23 +0000 UTC
5 minutes of laughing made me realise I freaking love this new rabbit fella
SUGGESTION: it would be great, if some sort of pack of fabric dye or pigment would be included in a package with a toy, so people could make their rabbits as grungy as they want.
2018-10-24 09:44:43 +0000 UTC
He looks good for a first design, but he also looks like I could find him in a claw machine. I was imagining a kind of limp/floppy body and limbs, with the limbs sewn to the body instead of the whole body being one stiff piece. The nose would look great if it was made from thread into a simple triangle. Perhaps you don't need to make him look dirty, but maybe use an off-white for the color to keep him from looking so vibrant. Maybe also consider a more textured fabric, give it some fuzz.
I really am excited to see this though! I can't wait to see the other versions! ❤❤❤
2018-10-24 09:43:00 +0000 UTC
I agree with the others, too clean. needs aging and definitely a different nose, maybe stitching? poseable limbs, head, could do an exorcist with a poseable head, lol. and what about a waistcoat??
2018-10-24 09:16:45 +0000 UTC
I have a lot of feelings about him.... First of all the zig zag stitch around his lost eye is messy, in my opinion it should be a normal seam with a decorative running stitch. The button is very modern looking and should be a dark brown or in a style that emulates a wooden button. His nose, based on the drawing, I expected to be leatherette or faux suede. His paws are wonky, his left one seems OK but his right one is very off. And the proportion of his torso is very off. The prototype is top heavy but yours is ever so slightly bottom heavy. I think the main issue is your drawn design is a different type of construction. It looks like a doll with posable limbs which exist separately from the body, like a steiff bear, whereas the prototype is a one piece plush trying to emulate that. I'm probably more picky than the average person, but personally I wouldn't purchase the prototype without heavy modifications.
2018-10-24 09:14:20 +0000 UTC
May I have the orange one??? XD
2018-10-24 09:10:52 +0000 UTC
Looks much closer this time, also I visualized Lulu running through a field of those popping up and down disappearing and reappearing in heaps of fluffy bunnies haha. Looking forward to seeing the stitched nose version. I'm fine with him being clean, people can dirty him up if they like I suppose.
2018-10-24 09:07:08 +0000 UTC
I agree that it looks a little to rigid. Based off the image I guess I envisaged it more floppy and fluffy. Also agree about the nose and cleanliness, but that's to be expected from a prototype I suppose. On the right track though!
2018-10-24 09:06:36 +0000 UTC
It’s not spooky :( it looks a little like what you’d win at a fair ;-;
2018-10-24 09:03:46 +0000 UTC
I don't know, I like the Illustration waaay more, this one isn't what I would buy to be honest, the propotions aren't the same, it looks more like a "fake one" instead of the "original product"! It should look the same as the drawing! But it goes in the right direction.

2018-10-24 09:01:06 +0000 UTC
sample bunny looks a little wide compared with the Artwork.... also SUGGESTION: should he eye button not be wooden (and with a wider rim)? this one looks plastic (like the nose).

2018-10-24 08:59:40 +0000 UTC
I was thinking the exact same thing ;)
Even the head could be a bit more "loose". He should be able to turn it, or else he can't speak directly to Alice (he would have to hop his entire body around)
2018-10-24 08:58:47 +0000 UTC
I agree about the nose -- that it should be stitching. Also he looks way too pristine and clean. Also the arms and legs are quite rigid, whereas I remember the one in game being quite floppy?

Ooo and the trade mark chaos tatoo on a foot maybe!
2018-10-24 08:56:48 +0000 UTC
It looks okay...SUGGESTION: it would make it looks more "real" if the joints would be stitched so the joints could move a bit if you take it (if you don't really know what i mean by that: arms + legs in pieces and stitched to the body so the movement would be better and it would look more like in the game) plus i would think more of a stitched nose as well (plastic nose doesn't really look like a doll out of the "Alice time line" XD just some ideas...

Youre right about the nose. Something softer. You could...i lnow this expense here...you could offer white rabbit new or alternative stressed rabbit for people to choose. You know the whole chaos coin thing.
2018-10-24 08:56:08 +0000 UTC
It's a good start. Can you make it look more 'distressed', as if it's been used and abused for a few years? You know, like a well-loved kids teddy? The main issue with this version is that he looks too 'new'.

The plush looks 'okay' to me, maybe make it a bit more skinny looking like the art? This plush looks fat 😅 love the idea but I would like it to see more 'worn out'
