Tokyo expansion
Added 2024-03-28 19:13:30 +0000 UTCIf you are on the Discord or following me on Mastodon/Twitter you might have already read about it, but pixeldrain now has three servers in Tokyo!
This took longer than expected. I already ordered these systems in November. First they had to be shipped from the USA to Tokyo which took a month. Then the network cards were out of stock which added another two weeks.
Then the connection between Europe and Asia went unstable due to an international conflict.
When that was finally over I started testing my software and discovered that the caching SSDs were not nearly fast enough for caching your files. And to top it off the boot SSDs were not fast enough to run the database either... At this point I was getting a bit desperate. I had spent about $10000 on these systems and had nothing to show for it yet.
Anyways, I ordered new SSDs. 12 x 8 TB NVME beasts from Kioxia. Configured them all in RAID0 (don't want my database to start complaining again). Now after a week of warming up the caches we're good to go! jp01, jp02 and jp03 are finally running in production!

So if you're anywhere near Tokyo, your download and upload speeds should have improved greatly. See the fruits of my labour by trying the speed test: https://pixeldrain.com/speedtest

Hi, I created a free account, and then I paid for a premium subscription, but I don't see where it says that my account is premium. Can you help me? Thanks.

2024-05-04 18:27:56 +0000 UTCThe buffering/video not starting for a while, was only related to some mp4 files i uploaded (A couple of seasons of a tv-show, and they all had the same buffering problem). All my other mp4 files works fine. I recoded the files with a video converter and reuploaded them and they start right away now :)

2024-04-21 12:18:17 +0000 UTCReally liking Pixeldrain so far. But when i try to load/play a video in filesystem the "Transfer used" is counted while videos are loading/buffering. Is that a bug? I know the filesystem is in beta, but was just wondering why that happened ;) . Shouldn't "Transfer used" be counted when a video starts playing? Here is a video i captured of it: https://pixeldrain.com/u/CU7UsQ4i

2024-04-21 07:18:57 +0000 UTCThe server in the USA was overloaded. I have disabled it for now. I will be ordering new hardware to replace it.

2024-03-31 06:13:25 +0000 UTCGood morning, good afternoon or good evening, Fornax, I'm having a problem with uploading where my speeds often drop to around 500kbps, although I generally upload between 25 and 30mbs. I did a test by uploading a 4GB file to another website where it took less than 1:30 minutes to upload and on Pixeldrain it took more than 15 minutes to finish. When downloading, the speed is perfect, but uploading is slow. my test https://pixeldrain.com/speedtest#s=140779520&l=193&t=717160448&h=focus I apologize in advance for any errors, as I speak via Google Translate Country Brazil

2024-03-29 20:46:44 +0000 UTCAnyway, if you're in Singapore you were probably connecting to Amsterdam before, Tokyo is already a lot closer.

2024-03-28 22:40:06 +0000 UTCAbove all, this expansion was EXPENSIVE. So it will be a while before I start thinking about expanding again. Singapore would have been a better location for these servers, but the servers there were all sold out.. In the end I get the hardware shipped from the US anyway so it would not have mattered.. but it's too late to move them to a different location now.
