September Movies
Added 2023-08-16 00:45:18 +0000 UTCWhat films are you guys looking forward to in September? Is it weird that I wanna see Saw X? I haven't seen a Saw film since high school, but as a zeitgeist prism, if you will, I find it an interesting series from that angle. And the whole torture porn genre of the early 2000s fascinates me as a movement. But yeah...what else you guys into? Let me know.

It’s a Talking Heads concert film from 1984. It’s directed by Jonathan Demme and shot by Jordan Cronenweth who had previously shot Blade Runner. The music, the staging, the lighting are all excellent

2023-08-23 00:54:28 +0000 UTCThe theatrical release I am most looking forward to is the restoration to Stop Making Sense in IMAX. Best concert film of all time and can’t wait to see it on the big screen

2023-08-22 22:12:10 +0000 UTCJust looked at the movie slate for September and I can’t believe Robert Rodriguez actually made another Spy Kids movie lol. Almost feels like his Avatar haha. Slightly interested in it though because I really like Billy Magnussen. Also found out about a movie called “Dicks: The Musical”, directed by Larry Charles, the premise sounds like a funny R rated spin on The Parent Trap: “Two business adversaries who realize they’re identical twin brothers decide to switch places to reunite their divorced parents so they all can become an actual family again.”

2023-08-18 08:51:57 +0000 UTCI posted a comment initially but apparently it didn't send. So I'ma try again. You got into a fued with someone over Bottoms, but that's getting a lot of hype from certain crowds. It's pretty raunchy and provocative I heard, but that might be hyperbole. But, to me, the real draw is that cast and director. Also Marshawn Lynch, who I'm almost certain will do great. There's also The Creator? Idk if it got pushed back, but I know that's some non-IP sci-fi movie, so that alone sounds interesting. Dumb Money with Paul Dano sounds a little amusing, tho I'll watch anything he's in.

2023-08-17 02:00:42 +0000 UTCThanks as always for letting me know about these. I really don't want to see the creator. Just...I really dont. I could be so so wrong on it but...after 65 I'm just not really having much faith in it. I might check A Haunting in Venice

2023-08-16 23:35:09 +0000 UTCI watched six or seven "Saw" movies and I'm interested in seeing a new one.

2023-08-16 15:32:32 +0000 UTCThey're still making them? I've only seen the first two and I never understood the appeal. They're not smart or insightful films like Audition or Snowtown where A) There's a logical thematic and narrative point to them, B) They don't portray the violence as sport and is actually horrifying to watch, and C) The violence isn't the focal point of the story. They're just a further extension of the slasher genre which many know I can't stand. They don't scare me, they just gross me out and depress me for no good reason.

2023-08-16 10:50:27 +0000 UTCYeah like Jared I was only interested in Poor Things... On a different note I guess I'll mention a new movie coming out in December you might be interested in called The Bikeriders. Its from one my favorite indy directors, Jeff Nichols, who's been on a 7 year hiatus but is returning with this one. I think you might enjoy his movies if you haven't seen any of them. They almost all take place in the south and all feature an appearance from your boy Michael Shannon who stars in three of them. His most notable movies are Take Shelter, Mud and Midnight Special.

2023-08-16 01:47:39 +0000 UTCHostel Part II is the best torture porn movie I’ve seen. As for September, all the movies I want to see are premiering either at the Venice or Toronto International Film Festival, and they won’t be coming to theaters until later on in the year. But there were a few that looked interesting: Finestkind—some type of crime drama set in New Bedford, MA about two estranged brothers who make a dangerous deal with the Boston Mob. Ben Foster plays one of the brothers, Tommy Lee Jones plays the father, and Jenna Ortega plays a “mysterious woman” caught in between them. Spoiler alert: she’s really just playing Wednesday again, and this is set in the Addams Family universe. But really, it looks interesting. A Haunting in Venice—I don’t know, does everyone get their murder mystery fix with the Knives Out series? I’m just putting this one out there to bring to people’s attention. I like Kenneth Branagh, but I’m 50-50 on seeing it. Dumb Money—movie about the GameStop short squeeze that happened a couple of years ago. Love the story, like the cast. Should be a lot of fun. The Tower—this French film has a cool premise: residents of a high-rise building finds themselves trapped by a black veil covering all the doors and windows that kills anyone who passes through it. I’m sure everyone in the building maintains a calm, rational manner and things don’t go horribly wrong. The Creator—sci-fi film about a war between humans and robots starring John David Washington. I’ll see how the critics feel about it before I commit to it. You go ahead and enjoy Saw X. I stopped watching those movies after Saw III. Whatever curiosity I’ve had about the elaborate death-trap scenarios they’ve concocted since then has been satisfied by YouTube clips.

2023-08-16 01:37:01 +0000 UTCI really want to see that one too, but pushed back I believe to November. Good thing too, cause I've seen absolutely no marketing for it.

2023-08-16 01:16:17 +0000 UTCYeah you're gonna see a lot of movie dates shift around due to the strike.

2023-08-16 01:15:50 +0000 UTCPoor Things was the only one, but it got pushed back to December 😭😭😭I’ll watch The Expend4bles tho, I’ve been enjoying Megan Fox’s pivot into pulpy movies.

2023-08-16 01:15:16 +0000 UTCApparently, David Fincher’s “The Killer” is reminiscent of the films of Jean-Pierre Melville, which I think is exciting if true.

2023-08-16 00:59:55 +0000 UTCAlso looking forward to Saw X. I've seen every single one so I'm not bowing out now though that Chris Rock one got me close. The Creator also looks really neat. It's directed by Gareth Edward who did Rogue One and despite that movies lame script, it's really beautifully directed so I'm looking forward to hin working with an original script. That's about it. Slow month.
