March Madness
Added 2023-02-13 21:20:12 +0000 UTCWhat movies are you guys looking forward to in March? Also...has anyone seen Infinity Pool?
Comments
I doubt anything from March will draw me to the cinema, but I might check out the following films when they reach streaming: Blueback, Champions, 65, Inside, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

2023-02-14 22:59:58 +0000 UTCInfinity Pool is one that will get better with subsequent viewings. It's different at a time when security in the familiar is prevalent (see Avater The Way of Water for a Cameron greatest hits reel that is raking in a fucktkon of $). Infinity Pool is still at the local Regal and I want to see it again. Mia Goth is my new favorite actor.

2023-02-13 23:53:09 +0000 UTCDon’t sweat it. John Wick is basically The Matrix without all the lofty ambition and philosophy. It takes place in a cool, stylized world all its own, and the gunfights and combat scenes are amazing. Best part is all the action is captured in elegant extended wide shots. No quick cutting or handheld shots like in the Bourne movies to amp up the suspense. And Keanu is badass. Definitely worth checking out.

2023-02-13 23:50:18 +0000 UTCThat’s fair. For me the big thing with the fifth one was how obnoxious it got with the meta aspects. I liked the opening set piece and how they tied that in with the stupid idea of “elevated horror” but in the third act it became quite grating

2023-02-13 23:46:37 +0000 UTCI’m on the fence about seeing the new Scream. Not since they killed…the particular original cast member that they did in the fifth one. That person was, weirdly, my favorite character because they were never expected to last as long as they did, and was too obvious a choice for elimination. The more shocking choice would have been any of the other two.

2023-02-13 23:42:14 +0000 UTCyeah...and sadly I am not as familiar with a lot of those franchises as most.

2023-02-13 23:31:20 +0000 UTCCompletely agree with you on John Wick. It’s crazy that they’re still as good as they are. I actually like 2 and 3 more than the first one. Really hope they have some plan for how to wrap things up, because I’d hate to see them get lazy

2023-02-13 22:44:44 +0000 UTCInfinity Pool was dope!! I’m rooting hard for Brandon Cronenberg to keep up the grotesque good work. I can’t wait to see how nasty he gets with his next feature and the feature after that. Yeah, I’m a John Wick and Scream fanboi, so I’ll be excited for those sequels as long as they keep making them…but I am EXTRA stoked for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves because it’s made by the same directors as Game Night!! Tbh I’m not even a D&D player, but Game Night was one of my favorite comedies of the 2010s because of its fearless visual style, so I hope they incorporate that into their dark fantasy heist movie.

2023-02-13 22:43:38 +0000 UTCI’d definitely recommend the first Scream. It’s not my favorite Craven (Nightmare on Elm Street). Hell, it’s not even my favorite Craven postmodern horror movie (New Nightmare), but it’s a lot of fun. 2 and 4 are pretty enjoyable. I didn’t much care for 5 but I’m hoping they can lean into the camp of being in Manhattan for 6

2023-02-13 22:31:15 +0000 UTCI admit I haven't seen a lot of these franchises. Never seen Scream, I have seen the first half of John Wick only, and I only saw the first Creed. So...Kinda lost there. But Infinity Pool does intrigue me. I kinda forgot about it, so it flew under my radar.

2023-02-13 22:11:00 +0000 UTCThere isn’t a whole lot that sounds enticing, but still I managed to find a few: Creed III—I really liked the first Creed, but I missed the second one. So I might go see this depending on how I feel about that one. John Wick: Chapter 4–Is it weird that I’m not yet tired of this franchise? I guess the combat scenes are really that good. But I’m hoping in this one they start looking at an endgame for everything. I want this series to stick the landing, not wear out its welcome. Poor Keanu’s already gone through that with the last franchise. Shazam! Fury of the Gods—I was pleasantly surprised by how good the first one was. It had the same kind of charm and hilarity as Big. I hope they continue the magic with this one. Inside—interesting premise with Willem Dafoe as a thief who gets trapped in a penthouse. I could watch Willem read the phone book and be entertained…if only because he’d get really weird, crazy, and intense as he went about reading it. Might even start eating the pages. I’m going to go watch clips from Shadow if the Vampire and watch him chew the scenery now. That’s all I got.

2023-02-13 22:10:50 +0000 UTCsounds like I need to see it then!

2023-02-13 21:52:19 +0000 UTCScream 6, 65, John Wick 4 (genuinely think the second one is a masterpiece), and maybe Creed 3? Lots of sequels but all for franchises I actually like. I have seen Infinity Pool. Saw it with a buddy of mine who’s a filmmaker and like me is a big Lynchhead/horror fan. I liked it quite a bit more than he did so it will be divisive even among people who like that stuff. But that’s part of what I like. It’s a really entertaining midnight movie, but it’s ideas are completely scatterbrained. Which is a criticism I had of B. Cronenberg’s previous film, Possessor. I do like it as a satire on rich people retreats way more than something like Glass Onion or The Menu. I thought aspects of it were very Kubrickian, like it reminded me a lot of a clockwork orange or eyes wide shut but on acid and not with Kubrick’s mastery. I like Possessor quite a bit more than Infinity Pool but I think it deserves a watch. Really liked to see Mia Goth play an absolute psycho, but I still prefer her performance in Pearl.

2023-02-13 21:44:05 +0000 UTCDid see Infinity Pool and my relationship with it is similar to yours with Babylon where I can see its glaring flaws and there's a part of me that thinks it's absolutely pointless but all that said I enjoyed the hell out of it and think about it a lot and wish I would have seen it again while it was playing. Hoping for an uncut version for home video.

2023-02-13 21:30:24 +0000 UTCScream IV - Big Scream fan so always gonna look forward to more Ghostface 65 - Adam Driver fighting dinosaurs? Fuck off, I'm in. Shazam 2 - First one was a surprisingly fun superhero flick and I love supporting David F Sandberg Inside - Really weird looking Dafoe vehicle that I'm not sure on but definitely gotta check out John Wick 4 - I feel the franchise has been having diminishing returns with every entry but not enough that I won't look forward to it

2023-02-13 21:27:31 +0000 UTCIm not looking forward to anything in particular, but knowing me I’ll probably see everything that ends up at my local theatre…. The Tuesday $5.50 movies are hard to beat.
