Name a comfort movie you enjoy watching and why (doesn't have to be holiday themed).

Rounders. It's a great film about gambling and it has a satisfying conclusion. It's also nice to see ed Norton and Matt Damon when they were Young

Good Fellas Yes it’s violent and about pretty deplorable people, but maaan there’s such a propulsion and extacy to the film making its so quotable she hilarious and filled with scene after scene that I know like the back of my hand. There’s a familiarity to it I have. It’s like that song that always plays at gathering or bbq that you know all the words to and can’t help but go into full performance when it comes on. It’s like that family member or friend that makes you laugh and smile ear to ear even tho their crazy. Seen yearly since I was 10 and it still has the same power over me as a 25 year old film snob.

Kung Fu Panda (2008) Just in general a wonderful movie the story is one of my favourites how someone who doesn't fit in with his life goes off to do something he dreamed about to only fail and fail again but figures the secret ingredient is himself holding himself back. Is he different yes? Is he much less flexible and not as strong yes! But it's himself that he needs to look at and figure out what he must do to be able to achieve the goal that he was destined and chosen for. Beautiful combination of animation, music, matte Paintings and wonderful vocal performances especially the standouts being Dustin Hoffman and Ian Mcshane. This is one of those movies I forget who does the vocal performances because they all fit so well. One of the best DreamWorks animation films ever in my opinion. Always makes me feel warm inside. Part 2 is also very good. 3 was okay.. ..

I don’t know if I have any particular movie I turn to for comfort. But I will say that there’s one element that helps me associate movies with comfort: cold weather. When the temperatures start to approach freezing, I know at least two things: 1) It’s the end of the year and all the prestige movies are coming out that I want to see, and 2) I’m going to be staying indoors a lot more. Cold weather gives you the incentive to stay in the house and get under a blanket. Might as well have a movie going on while you’re doing so. If it were a nice summer day out, you’d feel a little guilty about doing such a thing. Not the case when you’ve got wind chill waiting outside to take away all feeling from every exposed part of your body. So I don’t care if it’s an exciting fantasy adventure or some harrowing war drama, I feel very comfortable and enjoy whatever it is. Fuck the snow, I’m watching a movie.

American Graffiti. I absolutely adore 1950s American culture to the point where I would live there if I could and this film to me is the most authentic and loving tribute to that era. Everything from the nonstop music, costumes, cars, and even the way characters talk makes me feel like I've traveled back in time to a secondary home that I missed out on.

Wolfman Brandon

Blazing Saddles. To this day remains one of my favorite comedies complete with some of the best fourth wall breaks ever put to film. Cleavon Little and Gene Wilder’s bro chemistry is just infectious. Usually a go-to birthday movie for me

Jackson Littlewood

Nice. I've never heard of this one. Definitely will have to check it out!

Sideways, which is weird because I'm more of a horror or sci-fi guy and I also hate wine. But I think it's because I love "being there" with these people and dig their offbeat relationships, especially between such flawed dudes who have become lifelong friends since college. I'm nothing like any characters in it, but really meld with the vibe for some reason. It's quite random, actually. Very entertaining commentary track, too, by Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church.

Raiders of the Lost Ark Just about the perfect action/adventure film. Non-stop exciting action sequences that keep you glued to the screen like the bar shootout, the Cairo sequence, and the truck chase. Fun and witty characters like Marion, Sallah, and Marcus Brody along with memorable villains like Belloq and Major Arnold Toht. Additionally, Indy himself is a lot of fun as the archetypal stoic protagonist that at the same time can be relatable (I HATE SNAKES, JOCK! I HATE EM!). Pure escapism.

Agreed, the only musical score equally comforting is the vocal cover of it in Swiss Army Man.

Yoshifumi Kondō’s Whisper of the Heart is my favorite Studio Ghibli movie because of its narrative simplicity, graceful animation and total lack of cynicism. It is a relentlessly adorable slice of city life from start to finish, and I watch it whenever I need to feel better about the world. There’s just something about hearing kids sing a Japanese version of “Take Me Home Country Roads” that makes my heart soar.

Jurassic Park Spielberg, I think in almost all of his work, taps into some sort of indescribable magic that I can only really describe as cinema and, for me, the peak of that was Jurassic Park. Between the wonderful dynamic between Neal, Dern and Goldblum and the absolutely goosebump inducing score from John Williams, this movie gives me just a flood of serotonin. Plus it immediately transports me back to be 8 and that obsession with everything dinosaur and its just the perfect bit of nostalgia chicken noodle soup.
