Thanks! I hadn't heard of that one!

2022-10-21 21:57:50 +0000 UTCBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever should be interesting. I can't think of another sequel movie that's just the supporting characters of the original trying to come to terms with the loss of its star, and the 'art imitating life' angle could make it uncomfortable to watch. How they manage to also get a big action blockbuster out of it will be fascinating.

2022-10-18 18:53:09 +0000 UTCA lot of the big releases look ok, but I’m more stoked for Something in the Dirt (coming out November 4th). Benson and Moorhead are pretty consistently creative and love to push their styles outside of the mainstream https://youtu.be/_SU1dZ5sWYM

2022-10-18 07:42:25 +0000 UTCDefinitely looking forward to David Cronenberg's RABID 1977 in the YouTube video. I think the film is cruel, and unlike the usual contagion movies, it doesn't have a small, resourceful team doing their jobs. David Cronenberg just sets an initial state, and then things happen and people die.

2022-10-18 00:15:18 +0000 UTCThere is a crazy amount of potential this month, my top 5 picks are: 1. Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (however I am not sure many people will get to watch this as Roku is pretty niche, I doubt I'll get to see it unless it becomes available elsewhere) 2. Bardo, False Chronicle of a handful of truths 3. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever 4. The Fabelmans 5. Armageddon Time

2022-10-17 23:04:16 +0000 UTCYeah, there’s a lot coming out this month and it’s only going to get worse in December. But here are some that caught my eye: The Fabelmans—Steven Spielberg and Tony Kushner look back on Spielberg’s fabled childhood and how he started on the road to becoming a filmmaker. Looks promising, but if there are any overly cute, knowing winks to what movies he’ll make in the future (references to sharks, aliens, adventurers, etc.), I will start a riot in the theater. Hopefully Kushner won’t allow for any of that shit to happen. The Wonder—the other movie starring Florence Pugh coming out this year. This one looks better than the shallow, feminist “Wake up, sheeple!” nonsense she was in last month. The trailer, which shows the story being about a 19th century woman caring for a little girl who hasn’t eaten in months, certainly makes it look intriguing. We shall see. Coming out on Netflix. She Said—journalistic drama in the vein of Spotlight and All the President’s Men about the New York Times’ investigation into Harvey Weinstein which kicked off the #MeToo movement in 2017. If it’s half as good as those two films…I wouldn’t like it. So it better be as good as those two films. The Menu—nothing like a nice satirical black comedy that takes on the culinary industry. Starring Ralph Fiennes no less, who is perfect to take on the role of a snooty, arrogant and ultimately vicious chef. It sounds like a combination of his hotel manager from Grand Budapest Hotel and the Nazi from Schindler’s List. Disenchanted—what can I say? I’m a fan of the original, which hilariously sent up Disney movies and made Amy Adams a star. I doubt lightning will strike twice and this sequel will ultimately be seen as unnecessary, but one can always hope otherwise. Finally… Bardo—I’m very cautious about this one. This is basically Alejandro G. Inarritu’s take on 8 1/2. I have not heard many good things about it from critics, who proclaim it as boring and self-indulgent as it sounds. But, it’s Inarritu, so it’s not something I’m going to ignore. Still…a film about a director’s artistic struggles that lasts over 2 1/2 hours is not something I look forward to sitting through. That’s all I got.

2022-10-17 20:48:13 +0000 UTCThe big ones for me are Armageddon Time: has James Gray doing something very different and apparently more personal than his recent odyssey epics. The Fabelmans: Could be Spielberg’s last movie, which is enough to get me in the theater. The Menu: a very lean-looking thriller with maybe some humor? The trailer just makes it look like a fun time. Stars at Noon/Both Sides of the Blade: Claire Denis, one of my favorite directors, has two films out this year and I’ve still yet to see either one, so definitely gonna do that. Bones and All: Kinda looks like a vampire version of Badlands

2022-10-17 20:03:47 +0000 UTCHonestly pretty big month. Weird: The Al Yankovic Story could be really fun. Seems like it has the same energy as Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story so here's hoping it's as fun to watch as that movie. The Fabelmans looks like it's brimming with Spielberg cheese and charm. Hoping for the best even if there's a chance it's a little too schmaltzy and sentimental. The Menu looks like a really good black comedy. Love the cast and the setup so I'm in for that ride. Bones and All looks looks like it's right up my alley and considering I've loved Luca Guadignino last two movies, hoping this will also be great. Knives Out 2 is getting a limited theatrical release for Thanksgiving which I'm so appreciative of. Would hate to miss out on the theater experience with that one cause the first was a great time in the theater and this, I imagine, will be as well.
