Come and See (1985) is a movie I don't intend to watch anywhere in the near future or maybe ever. I think I just missed the opportunity and timeframe when I was younger to watch this "horror" war movie. After seeing only a few minutes of footage, it seems too depressing for me to endure over two hours of intentional hopelessness. As I got older I realized more and more how important it is to me that a movie needs to give the audience some glimmer of hope at the end (even if it is a cynical one). When you are younger and more naive, you might bear the weight of crushing dark "realism" and the silent emptiness that follows in a more impressionable way. The last movie that comes to my mind is "Dancer in the Dark". I watched it when it came out in the theaters and it hit me hard back then and even tho I think it is a masterpiece in some way, I don't intend to watch it again because of the faint memory of the movie and the feeling that followed is good enough for me to be remained as such. A repeat viewing would probably steal that from my experience. I don't see how "Come and See" would give me anything worthwhile since I'm not the young naive person anymore that will soak up the imagery of real horrors of madness with "fresh" eyes and mind.

2022-09-12 22:08:07 +0000 UTCCompared to a seven-hour Hungarian film, this one is definitely not heavy for any reasons at all. Watch it outside of the holidays (since you can't watch it during Christmas).

2022-09-12 21:36:10 +0000 UTCIt hasn't aged that well. No real reason to watch it now.

2022-09-12 21:31:40 +0000 UTCI wouldn't call The Conversation a gangster movie... or did I get this wrong?

2022-09-09 18:55:19 +0000 UTCThe Titanic. It's the only film directed by Cameron I haven't seen and the only DiCaprio role I haven't seen. The movie looks very blah to me and with a 3+ hour runtime, I feel like it would waste my time. I could be wrong, so I'll definitely see the Titanic after I've watched every other movie ever made 😁

2022-09-09 15:50:52 +0000 UTCThe Conversation. Just because I was at a friend’s house and he turned it on. As somebody that doesn’t like gangster films (except Killing of a Chinese Bookie), I was always interested in seeing it because I really liked Apocalypse Now. I liked it.

2022-09-09 14:56:12 +0000 UTCAny star wars film, nobody ever showed them to me. And now when people talk about star wars, they seemed to do so from a nostalgic, more youthful lens, and I'm confused if it is worth the watch at my age now. Also star wars, like other famous films, can't be separated from the legacy status (or franchising) and I just keep thinking of people saying I have to watch it because everyone has watched it and thinks it's one of the best film of all time, so the hype and popularity turns me away. Sort of like Citizen Kane, where it unfortunately can't escape the label of Greatest Film Ever Made, so when you watch it (the first time) you feel a bit disappointed or can't stop thinking "is this really as great as they say?"

2022-09-09 02:15:29 +0000 UTCThe Godfather. The thought of sitting through a three hour film about a crime family seems insufferable. I’m sure its reputation is justified, but sometimes one’s instincts are right and certain films just aren’t one’s cup of tea, regardless of how great they are.

2022-09-09 01:06:47 +0000 UTCI tried to watch it too. Got about 30 minutes in and fell asleep. It’s intriguing, but it’s definitely something you have to be willing to give yourself over to because the main reason for its length is the extremely languid pace. And yes, you would have to plan your day around watching it. But if it ever becomes available to stream again, I may take up the challenge. See what all the fuss is about. It’s considered one of the best films of the ‘90s.

2022-09-08 23:56:18 +0000 UTCI almost wrote that one but then thought it was a little too niche. I tried to watch it recently before it got taken off Criterion Channel and then thought "I got shit I got to do today." Definitely one that you need to plan your day around.

2022-09-08 23:43:19 +0000 UTCAnother film I haven’t watched is Sátántangó, an internationally acclaimed Hungarian art film that runs 7 hours and 19 minutes. I have not seen it because it is a Hungarian art film that runs 7 hours and 19 minutes. That is all.

2022-09-08 23:35:52 +0000 UTCThere are many famous films I haven’t seen, but I’ll go with It’s a Wonderful Life. Even people who don’t like old movies have seen that one. I don’t really have any solid reason why I myself haven’t seen it. Come Christmas, it’s certainly available to watch. I suppose I feel it’s just too heavy a film to seek out during the holidays. And given its reputation, it’s too saccharine as well. I guess I’d rather have that warm familiar feeling of watching Ralphie beat the holy hell out of his bully for the millionth time and shooting his eye out. It’s a sacred tradition at this point. But yes, it’s on my to-do list. Too celebrated a film not to be on there.

2022-09-08 23:24:56 +0000 UTCTo Kill A Mockingbird. I've haven't read the book and based on what I've heard about the movie it seems very Oscarbaity or self-congratulatory. It also doesn't help that the main thing people talk about is it's ending. I do think it's something worth seeing at some point but for me it takes a backburner to the many other older movies I haven't seen.

2022-09-08 22:42:59 +0000 UTCSame boat. I waited to see Ben Hurr when I could see it in a theater and had a great time. I've had a couple opportunities to see Lawrence of Arabia in theaters but also waiting for that 70mm experience.

2022-09-08 22:23:13 +0000 UTCThe Matrix. For the simple reason that it never piqued my interest enough to see it despite the glowing praise I've seen of it. All I knew of it back then was the bullet time thing that was constantly used in other movies and video games back then. When something is that popular, I'm usually not interested because I've seen so much garbage that was massively successful financially and many people with no critical eye personally urged me to see them.

2022-09-08 21:14:56 +0000 UTCWestside Story. I’ve honestly always kind of resisted musicals. That’s common I realize, but recently I decided I wanted to change that so I decided to start watching some. I honestly love the movie. I can’t claim to be a musical aficionado but what I saw was nothing short of amazing to me. I also loved Steven Spielberg‘s as well. It’s kind of open a whole new world to me as far as film is concerned.

2022-09-08 21:06:50 +0000 UTCLawrence of Arabia for the simple reason that I’m saving it for a theater experience. I’d love to see it for the first time in 70mm and with an intermission. It sounds like the kind of film I’d immediately fall in love with, and I don’t wanna wreck that initial experience by falling victim to distractions and poor visual/sound quality at home.

2022-09-08 21:06:31 +0000 UTCSo many its embarrassing. The one that I just haven't had the right mood to sit down with is Casablanca. And as someone that has seen La La Land a good 20 times and considers it one of their favorite movies, I'm a little ashamed I haven't seen it since I know La La Land borrows so much from it. I'm kind of saving it for an opportunity to see it in theaters but really do need to get to it.
