September Movies

What movies are you guys looking forward to in September? I have a few floating around that I'm curious about. Let me know what I should see!

Comments

September Films - Medieval - Barbarian - Pearl (hope it's not a pretentious A24) - The Woman King - Smile - Vesper Also the annual re-screening of The Big Lebowski. "this is not Vietnam, this is bowling. There are rules." 😂 Best political comedy ever!

Letterboxd is also a great resource for that kind of stuff. People make lists for movies coming out in given months

Jackson Littlewood

It’s true….at this point there are probably more movies about Monroe than there are movies that she acted in, and they all burnish the image of her as beautiful yet broken, the ultimate Troubled Starlet. And the Biopic is a grossly overrated, awards-baiting genre. But I have faith in Dominik. Jesse James was another person entombed in folklore, and I felt that he cut through a lot of that to get an original, iconoclastic portrait of him. We may never know how close Brad Pitt’s portrayal is to the real one, but by the end of the film we come to understand that there was a flesh and blood man burdened by myth. I’m hoping that Dominik can do the same for Marilyn Monroe, that he can cut through the romanticism that you speak of.

Bennett Oliver

I am a little against Biopics and how they are handled. I think they are almost never handled well...but the director of it of course intrigued me. Even if...I'm tired of the way we continue the whole Marilyn Monroe romanticism. It comes out the same day as Don't Worry Darling so....guess I'll have to pick which one I do for that one.

Don't Worry Darling is an interesting one. I don't like Wilde as a person, but I'm interested in how she manages this one.

Haha....what he said. I dunno. I don't pay attention to things. I depend on ya'll to give me recommendations most of the time. Thank your Ross for that info.

There are numerous sites that list upcoming films - I personally tend to use Movie Insider as it lists the north American release dates: https://www.movieinsider.com/movies/september/2022, you can also normally watch the trailers within the site. Alternatively IMDB has a list or you could just google upcoming movies followed by the month and year you are looking for and you will have a plethora of sites to choose from that all contain the data you require.

How do you find movies that are coming soon? I can only find movies that have already been released

I know it’s not a movie, but I would definitely love to get your thoughts on the final season of Atlanta when it drops. I loved Season 3 so I’m suuuper stoked to see the characters back home after going through all of that madness.

For me, BLONDE is the most anticipated movie of September. Trailer looks really good. Also I want to see PEARL.

* Blonde - This is one I’m mainly interested in for basically the same reasons as Bennett. I would also add that the director’s “Get over it, what’d ya expect?” attitude toward the NC-17 rating in interviews, has been hilarious to follow in the past year. * Don’t Worry Darling - Mainly because I enjoyed Booksmart, Olivia Wilde’s first movie, and hoping she made another good one here. With Booksmart she basically did her version of Superbad, straight down to casting Jonah Hill’s sister and here it looks like she might be doing her own version of The Stepford Wives. * Robert Zemeckis’s Pinocchio - Kinda like how we got two Jungle Book movies, a couple years ago, this year we’re getting two live action, Pinocchios. One from Zemeckis and then one from Guillermo del Toro. This one has Tom Hanks as Geppetto, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jiminy Cricket, Keegan-Michael Key as the fox and Lorraine Bracco as a seagull. It can’t be that bad can it??? * The Munsters - They let Rob Zombie make a Munsters movie. This will be entertaining one way or another. * Weird: The Al Yankovic Story - They made a biopic of Weird Al Yankovic, starring Daniel Radcliffe as Weird Al. Again, this will be entertaining one way or another. * Clerks III - I enjoyed the first two Clerks movies, hopefully this one completes the trilogy.

Had no idea it was NC-17 or directed by him. Now I’m intrigued

Jackson Littlewood

The one I’m looking forward to the most is Andrew Dominik’s Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde. I’m sure everyone’s heard about this one, how it stars Ana de Armas, it’s almost 3 hours long and rated NC-17. The usual details being reported make it seem enticing enough, but more that anything I’m curious how the director of the fascinating, underrated Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford handles an icon of a different sort. Brad Pitt gave what I consider his best performance in that film. Hopefully he does the same for de Armas.

Forgot Pearl was already coming out. X is one of my favorites of the year so definitely checking this little oddity out.

Definitely Pearl. I really enjoyed X and I’m excited to see this weird little anomaly coming out so soon. Don’t Worry Darling looks interesting. I liked Booksmart, Wilde’s first movie, and I’m excited to see her take a stab at genre filmmaking. And finally idk if it’s coming out in September. It got an official release in Hong Kong last year but hasn’t come out anywhere in the west, but I saw it on a download and fell in love with it. It’s called Limbo and it’s a really filthy Hong Kong police procedural that has a lot in common with Zodiac/Memories of Murder. I can’t wait to watch it again on streaming or in a theater.

Jackson Littlewood

Don't Worry Darling for sure. Big fan of Olivia Wilde's first outing with Booksmart and really curious what she's going to do with a more ambitious project. Barbarian looks like it could be a solid horror flick. Really good trailer with an interesting cast. Hoping for good stuff. Bros looks really fun. Love Billy Eichner so excited to see him in a rom-com. And barely movie related but apparently Roku nabbed a recording or something of the Heather's musical which I'm a HUGE fan of so it will be fun to see another adaptation of it.
