Topic Question

What movie have you seen the most, and why?

Comments

Not a hot take at all. I don't necessarily agree that it's his best but...I think it's among one of the best he ever wrote. Though I'm not a fan of Sorkin overall.

That’s a toss-up between the original Star Wars trilogy and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. When I was younger it was Star Wars. Why? Same reason as everyone else: I thought it was awesome. At 8 years old, no other reason was needed to watch them over and over. In my teenage years, it was LOTR. Being older, you would think there would be a more nuanced reason to watching them so many times…..but nope, I just thought they were awesome, and fun to put on TV. I used to have them on even while I was doing something else in my room or around the house. They were those old familiar movies that didn’t require my full attention to enjoy them. Probably because I knew them by heart. It’s been years since I’ve seen any of the films, of either series. Maybe they’re due for another look.

Bennett Oliver

shrek 2. in my childhood there were countless family movie nights watching this one. I've noticed it has started to grow a bit of a cult following, which is awesome. Still holds up well, so anyone can still get shrek'ed up once a while

Mees

Jurassic Park. I’ve always had a fascination with dinosaurs, so after I outgrew the Land Before Time movies this was the next natural progression and has been one of my all time favorites ever since.

Hart

Wayne's World. Had it on VHS growing up and it just captured everything I wanted in life as a kid and basically recreated as a teen. It's still probably my favorite feel good film, the music kicks ass, comedy holds up, and I just wanted to live in that world. Led to many good times driving around with my high school best friend in his junk Camaro that we painted with shark teeth on the side and feeling like there was no better place to be.

Sean Smith

My disagreement would be the book did all the heavy lifting. Like the best jokes from the movie are in the book. I also think Bennett Miller worked well with Pitt and Hill to make the dialogue more believable. But yeah it’s a great script

Arthur Augustyn

The movie that landed Simon Rex the lead in Red Rocket lol

Jackson Littlewood

Probably “Airplane!”. I remember seeing it as a little kid and having to turn it off because I was oddly grossed out by the food poisoning scene. I returned to it a couple years later and laughed at the fact that I took that incredibly funny moment seriously. I have a particular friend group I would rewatch it with all the time throughout the years. At age 22, I’ve probably seen it around 50 times. Every line in it is hysterical, quotable, and I just love how they pick a simple narrative to make as many laughable moments as possible.

I know this is a hot take, but I think Moneyball is the best screenplay Sorkin ever wrote

Living In Oblivion (dir. Tom DiCillo) I love this movie so much. It's funny as hell and has a great cast. Films about making films can easily be annoying or too referential but this one is damn near perfect with its take on the absurdness that can happen on a set.

Nathan Jones

The Lion King. I was so obsessed with it as a young kid that I'd watch it almost daily on VHS and I also had the soundtrack on CD where I would burn every word to every song in my head. Even though it's not one of my favorites today (I would easily put Beauty and the Beast and Pinocchio ahead of it), I can still respect it as a high quality animated classic.

Wolfman Brandon

Moneyball. I'd play hundreds of hours of Football Manager and leave that on in the background for inspiration. Lately been doing The Big Short. Something about that author's storytelling that's so inspiring.

Arthur Augustyn

Honestly think it's Scary Movie 3. I watched it constantly as a kid from an edited for TV version my dad recorded on his DVR. It wasn't until like a decade later that I realized a bunch of these jokes I had burned into my memory were cleaned up for the TV version. Still watch it at least once a year to this day.
