Kirby 100
Added 2017-08-28 16:23:26 +0000 UTCSome of you may notice a "Kirby 100" thing floating around today on social media. For those unaware, today would have been Jack Kirby's 100th birthday, and as such, many creators are taking the moment to celebrate what Kirby's art/work/legacy means to them.
I'll be the first to admit that I have nothing new to say about Kirby, and what I do have to say has been said more eloquently by people better than I. However, I will reiterate that for those who've never taken the time to familiarize themselves with Kirby's work, it's never too late. When I was younger, I actively disliked Kirby's art, which I think is fairly common for people my age, but as I grew older and wiser, I saw it's extraordinary value for what it was. I like to think I'm better for it.
Above is a commission from 2014 of Mr. Miracle and Big Barda, two of my favorite Kirby characters from Kirby's opus, The Fourth World. It remains one of my all-time favorite drawings.
