It is. It's mentioned as something that Cal favors, and it's not uncommon for some materials to be preferred, despite not being the theoretically best pick. Coralite's a good example of this. It's less durable than titanite, cryolite and most of the other deep metals, but it's an incredibly widely-used material for just about everything because of just how light it is.
