They probably got utterly mauled in canon, and didn't have the manpower to take care of the corpse. Either that, or they had to leave because of the poison, and just didn't come back.

2025-02-05 14:54:52 +0000 UTCHuh makes you wonder why they didn’t take care of the corpse in canon. According to one comment in the last update. They at the very least left the drop item behind. Haven’t found anything online to confirm it though.
