Out with the knocking engine!

Out with the knocking engine! Out with the knocking engine!

My dad's last 2 cars were Volvo 145's that he had in the 70's. He changed the engine in the 2nd one, and had the engine completely rebuilt as a spare in the mid 70's. Every component, with the exception of of the clutch plate, was bought from the OEM manufacturer, rather than Volvo themselves, meaning that the price difference was for the Volvo branding! The clutch plate was the only part that they couldn't trace the actual manufacturer, so they had to buy the Volvo branded item! But the difference in the parts costs by using OEM parts was staggering!

Lots of owners groups for the classic range rovers, that may be your best bet for sourcing the pasts you need.

Definitely take the head off yourself. Oil in the carbs can only really come from the crank breather? If you’ve managed to get enough pressure in the case to get ALL the oil to disappear, I’m guessing one of your cylinders will be missing some rings. Also just need you to be distracted from the build so I can catch up.

For diagnosis a professional shop wouldn't be a bad idea or seeing if a pro can come take a look once you pull it apart, they may catch things that come with time and experience but putting it back together and rebuilding it would be a great way to learn how to do it and let you know exactly how things should look and be while new.

If you have time take that shit apart!! It will be fun!!

Great to hear about the sponsorship - you deserve it! I think you should take the old one apart yourself - a good learning opportunity with no deadline to meet. Good luck with the Range Rover - it’s a beauty! 🀞
