Hey there,
Merry Christmas to every single one of you. I hope Santa brings you some Barons of Hell and cacodemons that you can send to hell with your BFG! Haha! Ah man, my humor is so shitty sometimes, I can´t believe it.
Having said that, I was thinking for a longer time, what can I offer you guys for christmas and honestly, this time I will do a little mix of a couple of things:
1). For those who are interested in doing music, maybe my short tutorial could be interesting to see? I don´t know. In this short video I try to explain I think you can create these types of Doom Eternal Mick Gordon Snare drums. There are many ways, but one thing I can say: Mick never uses just ordinary processed Snare Tones. No Fuck ever! Thats just not what he likes and I dont´like it too because it is about what? Its about creating a snare drum tone that is offending you. That is how you have to think. Everything has to be a bit more savage and like an elephant in the room, you know?
2). Next little thing is that you find in the attachement some custom recorded and processed Bassdrums that I use for STTA Songs and Writing. They work, you will see. Depending on taste, you can of course process them further, but they are a starting point. You have 3 microphones available: 1 Front, 1 Rear, and 1 Room Mic. The Front is a Sennheiser E906 (nice thing!), the Rear is a SM7B (yeah not bad at all) and the Stereo Room Pair comes from a Zoom H5 Capsule. (for the people like me with tighter budgets)
3). The Track is actually is a medley of a couple of Doom Eternal Tracks. Now..I never intended to do covers (since you run the high risk to suck hard there, you know) and these types of "trys" were just to understand certain aspects of Mick Gordons production and song writing aspects. Nothing more.
I am big fan of transcribing music by ear since that is how I learned composing music in first place. In the early days I did a lot of orchestral writing and it served me well to develop my skills as a composer. All the Single sections in there were done pretty much during the last 13 months or so. These were all experiments in order to find the right tones, understanding production aspects and so on. And before that thing collects digital dust, I though to share it with you.
4). Last but not least there is a short synth riff that I wrote a while ago. Use it in your own compositions. Do whatever you like with it. The cool thing is. You have the raw unprocessed version and the fun Version that I ran through my Metasonix and Trogotronic Pedals. You will hear the difference, I am pretty sure! I never made a song out of that. I don´t know why. But maybe you want to use it? ;-) Or do something with it? Let me know.
Merry Christmas again, and stay true to yourself.
Alex
