Hi there,
So this is the new Phobos track finally there. It is heavily inspired by Doom 2016, and Nine Inch Nails Guitar Tones. However, I think Mick used also the Sean Bevin Technique specifically while working on Doom 2016. I tried a kind of workaround technique since I do not own a real tape machine (e.g. a Studer A 800). Simply because these things are freaking expensive (15K Dollar upwards). Still, I tried to make an effort and used a combination of my Geiger counter, Axe-Fx, and merged partly both sounds together. Also, I used some re-sampling techniques (altering the pitch and speed) to get close to that kind of Marylin Manson Antichrist Superstar Technique. I remember that I provided a while ago. For those who want to check out the tooltip simply follow this link here.
Having said that, one thing that I tried to explore further is a new drum tone that sounds a bit of a hybrid between a metal tone production kit and an electronic drumkit. To create such a hybrid there is a bit of layering and postprocessing needed and it took some time to get the tone that I wanted here.
Another point was to create more sound design elements and mix them into the arrangement so that they simply not are just elements on top of that and therefore disconnected from the music but instead of part of the music. Not to make the Post too long, I think I achieved a good balance here overall, at least I hope so!
Horns up,
Alex
